Wildon Home ® San Bernardino Full over Full Bunk Bed Set with Stairs and Storage

I ordered three of these units because the design and size was perfect for my application--and I was short of time to have units ready for guest deadlines. As other reviewers found, the support for the upper bunk was sub-standard, and required a full sheet of plywood for reinforcement. The workmanship of the drawers is below mid-grade. They do function but clearly they are slammed together with luan plywood and staples. The biggest disappointment is in the wood finish. These units are merely raw wood with a quick stain application--no protective finish coat whatsoever. Given that these were shipped to Alaska, returning them is not an option. We'll make do and take time next winter to get a protective coat of urethane or tung oil over the raw wood. The chest of drawers is same marginal quality construction, though the upside is it is not particleboard and the visible surfaces are not veneered wood. A sealer coating would have improved the appearance of the pieces significantly for minimal cost by the fabricator. Will be much more expensive for us to do it now, but at least I will be able to select a quality sealer, and not something cheap that does not last. We'll just have to wait and see how these units hold up over time. One more thing--they were missing about 10 drawer nobs. Also, the dimensions provided for the stairs (18") was wrong wrong wrong. More like 21" wide, which caused us to have to customize the unit to make it fit over a baseboard heater. Wish we had had the time to just build these ourselves, as we would have done a much better job--though as said before, the design of the steps up to the upper bunk rather than a ladder is what sold me on going with these units. For adult use, that will be very convenient.

I love the bunk bed set but, I did have extra more sturdy slats made for them. The set comes with 3 slats for each bed which are not enough. Especially if you have pre-teen boys. I had 5 extra slats made for each bed. I still wasn't comfortable that the slats wouldn't bust so I added a sheet of Plywood on top. Other than my concern with the slats, the beds are great and my boys love them. The staircase is solid and strong.

The slats the come with the bed are not meant to be used to support the mattress alone. They are meant to be used with a bunkie board. It is like a two inch box spring.[@]They should be able to be purchased at a local bed/furniture store.

When the bed arrived, we were impressed that the stairs were pre-assembled. Unfortunately, we had to partially disassemble them to get them upstairs and into the room. They're constructed very well- tough to get apart which is a good thing! We put the whole bed, stairs, drawers together and based on other reviewers, we bought six more slats. Even still, when my husband rolled onto the bottom bunk, three boards, including the ones that came with the set, cracked. We're going to try more slats.

I am extremely happy with this bed. It was exactly what I was looking for. It's very sturdy and durable. It took me a few hours to put it together but I did it with the kids help. (one adult, 2 kids aged 11) All the kids did was hold up pieces while I attached the other end. You could not put this together with just one person. It wasn't rocket science, just large. There were very little actual pieces, most of it was already put together, which I loved! I did add extra slats. All I had to do was take one of the slats up to the [...] and they cuts 8 more for me. It's a standard piece of wood. This could not have been simpler. It's a very pretty wood. Best of all, the kids love it!

This bed is an attractive addition to any bedroom whether it be for visiting grand kids or adults. But beware that you will have to add multiple support boards under the mattress. Ours came with 3 flimsy support boards for each mattress and as an experienced carpenter I could see that was insufficient. Sure enough the first night my 60lb grandson broke one of the support boards in half by mearly crawling across the bed. I replaced all of the original boards with a good southern pine and placed 7 boards under each mattress as opposed to the original 3 that came with the set. Problem solved! I also plan to gusset under the support pieces that attach to the corner posts for more support since they are only supported by 2 skinney screws at each corner. With my changes to the original set I am very happy with the overall design and good looks of the bed and drawer/stairs. But I would only recommend this bunk bed to someone who is willing to make the same improvements that I did. I found the bed easy to assemble but easier with 2 people.

Bought for 2 boys ages 2 & 6. Great Quality, easy assembly. Stairs are awesome and much safer than ladder! Much better than I ever expected. Only addition we made is the number of boards that go under the mattresses. It came with 6, which we put under the bottom bunk, plus added a few more. Then we got 8 more wider ones, stained them and used them for the top bunk.
