"Hi Tom, this fireplace can be recessed into the wall slightly, it is ventless so you don't need to worry about exhaust ports. However, there are recessed holders on the fireplace that can hold optional gel fuel cans, or candles, which will be harder to access if the fireplace is recessed. The Sarasota Traditional Wall-Mounted Fireplace can easily be mounted on the wall, and is only 5.5" deep so it doesn't stick out, creating a nice look."James from Wayfair

I love this! Very unique. Adds a special kind of ambiance to the room. I used the fireglo liquid gel and did not notice any odor.

Love It !

This is a great fireplace that is both decorative and functional. Using 3 cans of gel, it throws out enough heat to comfortably heat 2 sizeable adjoining rooms. I purchased it from Wayfair about 18 months ago which was just before it was featured on Oprah so you can imagine that I was very excited when both my daughter and co-worker said "I saw your fireplace on Oprah".
