just turn to waffle ,mine i turn lower towards counter , makes mine just how i like them .the more you turn knob to up possition the darker the waffle . to start , light comes on , wait its getting hot and when light goes out pour one cup batter in middle ,spread to sides and close ,light will then come back on .dont touch waffle till light goes back out open,;; takes about 6 minutes ;; ,and wow perfect waffle every time .i do spray with tiny bit pam befor pouring waffle batter .. it dose get very ,very hot ..so just have pot holders to help when opening .[not for child to use ]it gets hot hot .. . can do many things and works the best ever . do know it gets hot on outside ,becouse its made that way... perfect in every way if used in the correct way .. i highly reccomend if you are willing to understand ,it gets hot on outside allso. try it you can do it and will love it once you learn . some people never read directions ,and get burned ..so i explained .its well worth the money just pay attention."..."
