Purchased this train because my Grandson is a big fan of the movie and loves to watch it with his Mom and Dad since he first saw it last year at the age of one! He now has a little sister and I wanted a gift the whole family could enjoy every Christmas so this train will be a part of their Christmas tradition when setting up the Christmas tree. It is durable, he has taken it off the track a few times, but is learning to leave it on the track and he knows how to properly use the remote to operate the different features which I am impressed to say are very realistic, the whistle, the conductor and the bell. A fun train for kids of all ages! A winner."

The tracks snap together easily and he is able to put the engine and cars on the tracks without much difficulty. He is 7 years old. The only downside if you could call it that is that he uses up the batteries as he plays with it so much. All in all it is a great buy."..."  Read more

This is a great item by itself but kids usually don't appreciate, they just put anything they imagine that might works on it but it turns out that it's not true---they tried to play with Thomas wooden railway egines on this set but the center teeth of the track (by which the Lionel motor engine pulls itself on the track) hinders the movement.
