I recently obtained a new position which came with a new laptop and the opportunity to purchase the Clark and Mayfield leather laptop tote I have been eyeing on this site. Getting the tote alone was worth going through all those interviews! I knew I loved the tote before it even arrived but upon opening the box and being greeted with first the smell of high quality soft leather and then the fine contrast stitching and chrome buckle, I fell in love all over again. I debated for a long time between the red and the black and ultimately chose black, for which I am eternally grateful. It looks fabulous. It is the perfect size for a 15" laptop and for a work bag in general; it fits my shoulder and body like no other bag I've found. For my new MacBook Air (which is a little thinner than the standard 15" laptop), I've gotten a separate sleeve so it fits snugly in the center laptop compartment. There is plenty of room for the mouse and power cord to slide right in on either side of the compartment without the bag becoming bulky or awkwardly shaped. The outer flap pocket has compartments for pens, business or credit cards, my cell phone, and enough room for my rather large wallet and sunglasses, making this the perfect every-day bag and also ideal for travel. You can remove the laptop and put it in the airline bin in about 10 to 15 seconds...other items remain secure. The top zipper was successful at keeping out both rain and snow and the beauteous mud marks due to our recent thaw have wiped off easily with a damp cloth. Other bags seethe with jealousy upon our passing. It's so lovely that my boyfriend keeps trying to negotiate one for himself (if it was a little less feminine, he claims he would have stolen mine already). He's fussy so that is saying a lot. I. I have used this bag as a day trip bag numerous times. I used it as a day bag while traveling in Europe ( the bags shape makes it easy to keep at your side with your hand securely over it) and have also use it as a beach bag. I'm a graduate student and carry a lot of files on a daily basis. On occasion, I need to bring my laptop with me. I wanted a bag that would not only carry my laptop, but also have room for my files, wallet, water bottle, etc. I have a 15.4" laptop and it fits great in this bag. In addition, I can fit my files and other papers in the bag with plenty of room to add a few books. I love that I can zip the bag to keep my stuff from falling out, being seen (gotta protect those confidential client files!), etc. There are plenty of pockets and the bag seems to hold up well. I haven't had the bag long but the handles seem sturdy enough to support the weight of all my stuff AND the material seems durable enough to withstand all my abuse! :o) This is a big bag, and it works perfectly for me. I bought this bag to replace my old tote that finally bit the dust. I was looking for something that could primarily serve as a carry-on for when I traveled and needed something that was sturdy and could hold a lot. This tote is gorgeous. The leather is of high quality and looks like that it would age beautifully. I love that the tote can be zippered closed and am amazed by how lightweight the bag is considering its large size. I used it for a recent trip and was happy that it fit under the plane seat in front of me even though it was jack-packed full of stuff.
