This seat looks best when closed, because in the open position you notice the thin plastic sides that look a little cheap. If you often leave the seat up it might not be best for you. When closed it looks classy and modern. The design also means it does not feel as stable if you sit on top of the lid in its' closed position (my husband is heavier than me and was worried it would break when he sat on it).
