TV Stands

I purchased this stand for use with a 63 inch television and several components. First, I did not assemble the unit personally, but instead had two professionals do so for me. I was in the room the entire time and can say that it took them about an hour working at a leisurely pace while we talked about numerous topics. For them, this was not a difficult assembly. I had them mount the television on the included mount at the highest position. The height of the TV is just shy of 36 inches and when mounted left approximately 4 inches to the top shelf. This was not sufficient for my 7 inch high center channel speaker. You could place components there whose heights are less than approximaetly 4 inches. However, modification of the stand to raise it was not particularly difficult. In essence, they moved the mount from its position on the floor and raised it several inches up to the next bolt holes. The remaining holes match up perfectly. Slightly concerned this might make the stand a little top-heavy(my TV weighs 88 pounds)because the mount is no longer on the floor, they used L brackets to attach the rear of the stand to the floor. This arrangement provides great stand stability and gives complete usage of the top shelf. Although the TV is a little higher than ideal eye level, the stand allows a 15 degree tilt and by using that feature, it sits almost perfectly while allowing the center channel speaker to rest directly beneath it creating very realistic dialog. It can also swivel in either direction. This stand is of good quality materials. Glass shelves are of 3 different thickness levels with the top glass being thicker and the bottom, which has support from the base being the thinnest. Support for all shelves could be improved somewhat but should not be a problem if weight limits are observed. In addition to that concern these are other areas where improvement is needed: the shelves are not deep enough to accommodate medium to large AV receivers (or other similarly sized components)-they will hang out over the front edge. Further, the height between the shelves needs to be increased. If you intend to place any component higher than 6 and 3/4 inches on the bottom shelf, fergettaboutit. Middle shelf will give you between 7 and 9 inches of height depending on whether the component is placed against or behind the front ledge. You should have no problems (space wise) with DVD players, satellite receivers or components less than 18 inches in depth. Overall, an attractive and functional stand of good quality, including nice features (several mounting options, tilt and swivel ability). But you need to carefully measure your components and TV and decide how you wish to mount it before ordering this stand. It took longer to unpack this TV stand than it did to put it together. Very easy assembly. My 3 yr old daughter helped me put it together. The TV stand is a beautiful dark wood. We have a 55" LG LCD TV on it and it fits great. The open middle is perfect for our cable box, stereo, etc. There is lots of space in the back behind the shelves for all of the cables. We searched extensively for the right TV stand and are very happy with this one. The price is very reasonable as well. We were looking for a tall TV stand so that we could watch from our breakfast room and kitchen. The TV is in our family room. We sit at our breakfast table and watch TV over the couch. We bought the TV stand to fit our 55" TV. The stand is built solidly and holds our hefty TV without wobbling or insecurity. The color is quite sleek and the look is very finished. There's no scuffing in the finish or uneven appearance. The glass is shaded so if you're looking for something to semi hide your shelving, this is your pick! There is lots of space! The shelves are deep and there's six of them. You can adjust the height of them (we picked centered across). The stand looks exactly as pictured. The height is a great size. The backing doesn't come all the way to the top, but it's good for threading wires through and you can't see it from sitting on a sofa. The not so great: I'd have loved this stand to be more elegant and rounded, but it's beautiful to look at and it's exactly what we bought and paid for. As it stands now, that's the best complaint I can have about this purchase. In closing, I think the stand is a great value for the price (we got it on sale, I'm new to the site and I don't know if the site has these sale prices year round). I'm very happy with the features of the stand as well as how sturdy it is. It doesn't seem like flimsy build-it-kits you can buy. The best part? After looking at several "big box" stores and doing an exhaustive Internet search for a TV stand for our 60" flat screen TV, we decided on this model, and are extremely happy with the purchase. The price was the same or less than some decidedly homely and cheap-looking 60" units seen elsewhere, and the design is possibly the most elegant, practical, and unobtrusive we found anywhere. The sleek, simple lines, glass doors, and metal feet fit well with our mid-century modern decor, there's plenty of space for components, setup was straightforward, and construction/materials very solid for a unit in this price range. I can't think of anything I don't like about it, except perhaps that the black finish does show dust easily, but that's sort of a given. In short, we love this TV stand (as much as one can love a piece of furniture) and are really glad we didn't settle for any of the other TV stands we looked at before we found this one."..."  Read more
