Very good but not perfect from Chatsworth, CA on 09/06/2012 – Verified Buyer
First of all, these are the best adjustable dumbbells out there without question. I researched dumbbells for months and arrived at these. While they were more than I wanted to spend, I believed that if I got the use out of them, they would be worth the extra money. They work seamlessly as advertised, are easy to change and re-rack the weights, and the fact that the bar gets larger and smaller depending on the selected weight is a breakthrough. The stand is higly reccommended if you can to save your back. So why the four stars? It's that there are 3 things I didn't care for: 1-the grip. Other reviewers seem to love it, but I didn't care for the ergonomic shape. After using them, I went to the gym where they had straight grips, and I found the straight to be more comfortable. 2- When selecting any heavier weight than 10 lbs, I find that the weights themselves seem larger in diameter than I would like, larger than regular metal hex dumbbells, making it a little akward lifting them over my head. 3- The biggest reason I didn't care for them was that although they are the most solid adjustable dumbbells out there, you are still aware that they are not a solid one-piece dumbbell. They rattle slightly during movements, and it was just enough to distract me. If you are sold on adjustable dumbbells, than this is the one to get. For me, however, I just prefer the solid feel of the basic metal hex dumbbell. I ended up ordering 6 pairs of hex dummbells and a stand. The stand wasn't any larger in width and depth as the twistlock stand, and after buying all six sets and stand, I still ended up saving $287. Again, very good, but not perfect. Hope this helps.

Best Adjustable Dumbbells, Period from Los Gatos, CA on 02/01/2013 – Verified Buyer
First, I don't know how Wayfair got them to my house cross country in two days, but flipping Kudos to you! I can't talk about these enough. Fantastic. Worth every penny when you consider two things. 1) they replace an entire wall rack of dumbbells from 5 lbs up to 50. Price that out. Even for the cheapest set you will pay more. And then it will take up that huge chunk of space. 2) This is a life investment. If you work out like I have your whole life, granted on and off, you realize this is an investment. The best part though is when you are in a down period, for whatever reason, your entire rack of dumbbells can store under a chair! (I keep mine under a large chair in the living room out of site. when it's time to work out, I just move the chair). Wife loves that. Number 1 thing I dislike about all the others on the market, Length. If you are picking up 5 or 10 lbs, you should not have to pick up and wield an 18 long device. That is completely silly and a really poor design. Sorry to just about everyone else in the rapid change dumbbell industry. There are other dumbbells in what I call the slow change industry. Those are the dumbbells that you have to unscrew something on one end, stack on more plates, or slide out and slide back in a pin type device that is tough to align. Some may not mind this in between workout sets. Others that do videos like P90X that need a rapid change will hate that. I personally don't want a single set of adjustable dumbbells that take time to change for this reason. In the gym you can often keep two weights with you when going say, curls. If you are running to exhaustion and your heavier weights get to be too much, you drop them and grab the next lower set. With the slow change types you can't do this effectively. With these you CAN! Drop them in the cradle, click and go. That fast! So you get the best of both worlds is what i'm really saying. They are narrower than the other rapid change styles with respect to what weight you select (of course they get longer as they get heavier), and, they are quick to change so you can use them in all lifting applications. Someone left a negative review of them being too long for 50 lbs at their max length. They are nit picking. Probably someone who owns a competitors and in my opinion only, simply trying to be a hater. Don't pay attention. They are fine. Slightly longer yes, agreed. Compared to the long list of trade-offs you get, forget about it. Finally it is true they will only go up to 50 lbs. Well if you are throwing up that much weight then you probably have a gym membership anyway andor have invested in some other equipment. My suggestion there, which I have actually done, is I use these for 99 of my workout stuff. All the arm raises and curls and so on. On the few exercises where I push it, I have a few extra heavies on the standby in the garage near my bench. This is still immensely better than having a long wall of bells ranging from 5 to 100 lbs. Instead you have one set taking up most of the needed range, and maybe some added ones for the rest if you really need it. The coating on the plates seems solid. I'll update this later if I note any issues. It's not like the plastic coated concrete junky weights that you might be thinking of. It's more like a sprayed on or dipped type very solid coating. Looks and feels great. The handle mechanism and engagement is a very solid feel. When you plunge the handle into the rack, it clicks and locks in with a satisfying feel and noise. This is the pin engaging and actually unlocking the adjustment mechanism (when out of the rack, the handle cannot turn and thus drop any weights). When you rotate the handles, again a very satisfying click you can hear and feel as the mechanism engages more plates. Just fantastic. The feel of the handle is very good. Contoured and ergonomic (I hate that word). It just feels good and solid. Not knurled, but fat, beefy and tapered down for comfort. At first glance this is a large price tag to swallow. If you are someone that uses a set of varying dumbbells and need a home solution, in my opinion, it is silly not to buy these. They are hands down the best that I tried and I spent a lot of time going from store to store, and using the versions that friends have purchase. Oh! and no rattle clanking of the plates, which is really just a nice to have. I hope this helped. Back to curls......

A Great Set of Adjustable Dumbbells. from West Jordan, UT on 11/30/2012 – Verified Buyer
I'm very pleased with the quality both in material and build. They switch out from weight to weight in seconds and couldn't be easier to use. Everything feels tight and crisp when locking in the different weights. There is very little movement in the plates when using them. The design is pretty slick and one of the best looking functional adjustable dumbbells out there right now. Comparison to other top sellers: They are larger than the Bowerblocks but have a more traditional dumbbell design and don't have plates banging together as you use them. Much easier to change weigths. They are the same approximate length of the bowflex selecttech 552's when at the full 50lbs, but are much smaller at lighter weights. If you read the reviews, you'll see that the only bad one, is from someone that doesn't even own this item and owns a different item. I own them, and I recommend them as well, this is a great set of adjustable dumbbells. Pro's lightning fast weight changes. Nice materials and build, mostly metal no way for a plate to fall off. traditional dumbbell design. always balanced with selected weight. Con's (Not really a con, but a limitation) Weight limit of 50lbs.

The Cadillacs from San Diego, CA on 04/01/2012 – Verified Buyer
I am recovering from an unfortunate surgery and have had to be couch surfing for over 2 months. While I'm still not completely healed, after reading numerous reviews (I had intended purchasing the much-cheaper PowerBloc), I decided to treat myself and go for these dumbbells. They are absolutely fabulous and even easy to use half the weight. The dumbbells are 5 pounds by themselves and the weights in 5 pound increments. For some of my exercises because I'm in such poor shape, I needed 7 1/2 pounds, However, though it was not an official setting, I was able to remove a 5 pound weight from one side only at the 10 pound setting. These are excellent and so quick to change, much better than the starlocks I had formerly, also very solid and the weights stay put. So, big bucks but worth it.
