South Shore Versa 5 Drawer Chest
Nice looking, affordable kids dresser
Canadian Mom from Ontario, Canada– Verified Buyer
I purchased this South Shore dresser/chest for my 3-year old son based on several factors:1) Previous positive experience with South Shore (a baby changing table/2-drawer dresser w/ shelves)2) The color & style of the dresser/chest3) [...]I have owned (and used) my South Shore baby changing table/dresser for 5 years now, and it's still in near perfect condition. It was inexpensive and functional, so this is what prompted me to look at South Shore again when I needed a new dresser for my son. As was the case the first time around, South Shore seemed to provide the best price and the best "look" for my needs. After about a month of shopping around for just the right dresser (including various department & big box retails stores), [...]Now, about the dresser itself . . . Pros: The color & look are both really so nice. This chest can work for a child's or a teen's room. The drawers are so smooth and make no noise at all. They are roomy & hold lots of clothing. The chest itself is quite sturdy (even comes with a wall-mount for extra security/stability, which I personally didn't need). South Shore's customer service was very prompt (a real, live personal answered the phone immediately) & helpful!Average: The construction. These days, I find that most furniture is made of the same, somewhat "cheap" materials. Oftentimes, the pieces arrive with small chips in them (as was the case with my Versa chest), and you must decide if it's worth it to go through the hassle of exchanging it or just live with it. I've had this problem with many, many brands (including Sauder, IKEA, and almost all other furniture that comes requiring assembly), so I can't say that South Shore is any different in this regard. The bottom line is that it's "affordable," and all other comparable furniture comes with the same problem, unfortunately, so I decided to live with the two small chips that came in my Versa chest and simply colored them in with a furniture touch-up marker in light oak. Can't even see that there was ever a problem.Cons: The assembly is a BEAST! It took two adults 3+ hours to put this chest together, and we had to call South Shore's customer service in the process in order to figure out how to complete one of the steps. In the end, they advised us to "gently" use an electric drill because it was truly impossible to insert several of the screws with a manual screwdriver. In the end, I am very pleased with the look and functionality of this chest: especially considering the price paid!!! I'm also taking into consideration how long I believe this chest will perform/function for our needs based on my previous experience with South Shore furniture. I would recommend it to a friend based on the price and performance, but I would also warn that it may arrive with some minor flaws (wood chips or scratches) and that it does take some effort to assemble. Bottom line: it's a good deal if you don't mind the minor inconveniences.

Drawer hardware is plastic, I am a bit worried about that but have not had any issues. Using it for a spare room so use is limited.

Was not happy that it did not come assembled. Two panels were broken but was able to put together and use.

Nice, affortable item. Make sure you are ready to put together all the pieces as it is time consuming! But the finished product is worth it.

Nice Chest for Limited Space

For the price, it's a great chest although I don't see the reason for the double handles on the top drawer. It took me approx. 2 days to complete (alone, disabled, 50+). Had to adjust side rails to keep drawer from dropping and remember to open/close slowly. Once finished, it is a beautiful addition to spare bedroom or studio apartment.

The saying is true: "You get what you pay for!" We needed an inexpensive dresser for a college apt. This came with a "million" pieces, that's OK we like a challenge. The overall dresser material certainly could be labeled as junk and after putting one drawer together and seeing how flimsy it was, we threw it in the trash. I have had great success with the choices I have made at Wayfair but this one was a definite loser. It doesn't even deserve 1 star!
