The top consists of two pieces of wood glued to together and on one corner they have cracked apart. I have a piece of material over the top and therefore it doesn't worry me. Was this helpful? Assembly is fairly simple, had a problem with drawer alignment but simply shifting the base of the bed helped them to settle properly. Seems sturdy and hopefully will last her many years. I like the headboard with the nooks for my daughter's stuffed animals (but, then they are there to play with at naptime instead of sleeping).
