Great buy from Ellsworth, ME on 11/09/2014 – Verified Buyer
Arrived fast, one very heavy box (after all, it's a bed!) but no damage. They package this baby very well, with no excess of garbage but very well engineered. In the kit there is everything you need, except tools of course, but with all the hardware necessary to assemble the bed. I did that myself in one hour. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. In the box there is even two pieces of wood cut at the right length so you know where to drill the bed to the platform.
Bed is a piece of solid particle board, so of course it does make your mattress very firm (as I wanted). The only thing I am worried is that this is a solid continuous piece of particle board (as is the whole bed), not one of these European wood with slats that somehow adapt and conform to your body and let the mattress breath. Let's see if that, in the long run, does affect the mattress.
The bed does smell of glue and paint. Mine got rid of it in one to two days: I recommend to leave windows open for few hours before use it.
So far so good: we had this last week and it is so far very good: good looking and comfortable. The Queen mattress fit perfectly in the frame.
Great buy for the price!

It says you need two people to put together from La Mesa, CA on 11/05/2014 – Verified Buyer
I managed to do it all by myself. I'm a pretty unathletic average white girl, 5'7", with a "i can do it all by myself" complex about most things. So I put it together by myself, but it probably wasn't one of my best life choices. You really should have at least two people. Its not so much the construction that is difficult, but you have to line up the platform portion PERFECTLY with the frame and it's kind of hard to line up a massive piece of composite by yourself. Also, the little rim pieces need to be screwed in from the BOTTOM, so it would be helpful to have someone lift the bed a bit for you so that you can actually get under it enough to easily screw in the screws.

Now that being said, I am actually pretty dang disappointed in one real thing. The composite that makes up the platform portion isn't painted whatever color the rest of the bed is. It's just the color of like a cork board. Which means, if your mattress doesn't PERFECTLY fit onto the platform, you can see the tacky cork color. Which is really disappointing. And really the only way that I can think to remedy that is to either get a dust ruffle, which I think completely negates even having a platform bed, OR I'll have to move my mattress and spray paint it black. Which will come with it's own set of problems. Other than that it seems to be a great bed. It's just irritating to spend several hours constructing this thing and then have it look cheap because the platform pieces aren't the same color as the rest of the bed.

More than I expected from Wichita, KS on 12/14/2014
I accidentally bought a different more expensive version of this bed a while back. With this one I had very low expectations, LOLOL. I'm very mechanically inclined and only used the pictures to put it together when I needed them (to make it more of a challenge). It says that it takes 40 to put together, took me about 25 including a couple glasses of wine. It was perfect for what I wanted. The bed can be pulled up away from the support boards to store seasonal things you don't need. My wife loves it and the particleboard smell will fade after a night or two. I thought that with the 1/2 inch frame that is need more support for my mattress. Well you don't need it. If you wanted to, I'd recommend getting some black stain to stain about two to four inches of the boards your mattress sets on. It's not necessary but if your sheets are very tight then you'll know what I mean.
So if you want something very easy to put together and cheap. This is the one for you. You'll get more than you expect for a cheap platform.

Good Quality from California on 10/22/2014 – Verified Buyer
I am satisfied with this purchase. For the price it did not disappoint. My only suggestion is to heed the instructions and actually grab someone to help you. This bedframe is very HEAVY. I put it together by myself (a great reminder of how much I need to work out, mind you), but it would have been MUCH easier had I had an extra hand.. (I won't tell you how long it took me). Good quality, my queen mattress fit perfectly. Like other reviewers, I also had a difficult time lining everything up perfectly, and had some heated arguments with the screwdriver to make sure I got it all lined up. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase.

Pleased from Lewiston, ME on 03/25/2015 – Verified Buyer
I bought this in a King size. Not too bad to assemble but it's much easier if you have an electric drill. It was awkward to have to place the rim around the top of the bed. Too heavy to lift so had to lay on the floor to hand screw the screws in (the electric drill wouldn't fit) while someone else held the rim in place. I am pleased with this purchase the only thing I wish was different was the the whole platform was one color. In the picture it looks like where the mattress sits, it's a light colored wood finish but in actuality, it has that cork board look. I bought this with a king size mattress and the mattress doesn't cover the bed. It's short maybe an inch or 2 on both sides so the cork board part shows. Nothing a little paint and a nice comforter couldn't cover. Overall, it's a decent purchase for a King size.

Heavy, sturdy, comfortable from Chandler, AZ on 02/04/2015 – Verified Buyer
The bed arrived about 4 days later than expected, but with the snow storm happening in the eastern portion of North America, the delay was understandable.

Assembly of the bed was fairly straight forward, nothing more complicated than a bookshelf, or entertainment center. Some of the pieces has odd overlaps until you turned them over/around and then everything was evenly matched. The portion of the beds on either sleeping side lacked proper screw guides/pilot holes to attach the moulding, and there was no indication on the moulding where the screw was to go, resulting in a briefly frustrating moment. Drilling new pilots and lining everything up was not hard, but it would have been nice to have an exact spot to put everything.

The bed is firmer than it was with box springs, and I find it to be comfortable. I can provide no normalized method of comparison, (i.e. sleeping on a bed of rose petals vs the jagged rocks of the wind swept desert).

A point of notice for those looking at the height of their bed. A standard box spring and metal frame was roughly 5 inches taller than this platform. This means that your bed will be slightly lower to the ground.

Exactly what it shows to be! from Wyoming on 01/10/2016 – Verified Buyer
I will admit at first when I kept going back to this bed, I was a little hesitant. After purchasing a new house this fall, I wanted to give my Graduating son a new bed for his new bedroom while he was still at home. WE had been looking but never really saw anything until we saw this the Nichols Panel Bed. After reading all the reviews, Positives and Not so Positives, we decided to give it a shot. Once it arrived ( on time even through Christmas and New Years shipping) My guys began their assembly of the bed. Between 2 of them it took about 2 hours from start to finish. I did not hear much grumbling so that tells me the directions were pretty well laid out. He has been on it now for a week and loves it. I was initially concerned about the corners around the foot of the bed, but they have not been an issue with the shins and I don't think they will be. The storage underneath is a little different, but I do like the fact that it is there. Would be a great place for Extra bedding or blankets. I have more rooms to fill with beds, I will be purchasing more of the Nichols Panel Beds.

Pros: Easy Assembly, Great item for the price, Looks great when finished
Cons: At this time, there are no cons.

Good buy. from Fairview, PA on 09/18/2014 – Verified Buyer
Purchased the platform bed to save the expense of a box spring. Price was right. Not sure what I expected, but the assembly was pretty time-consuming since the instructions say no electric screwdriver. Only issue in working alone on the assembly is once you get the frame put together, it becomes heavy and awkward to lift and turn. And then the final step, "flipping" it right side up is most definitely a two-person job. I purchased the Queen-sized frame and my daughter is a slight build so I'm not concerned with it handling her weight or the weight of two people. Seems pretty sturdy. I'd recommend it.

So far, so good! from Los Angeles, CA on 10/22/2015 – Verified Buyer
Received the frame as expected from delivery notifications. Heavy in box, had my two brothers carry it up a flight of stairs and that was so much fun. Assembled by one person only, took about an hour to assemble but directions were clear no issues there. I searched and searched for a bed frame I could be happy with based on pros and cons listed, and what I could compromise with in regards to cons. One con I know from reviews was the the edges stick out, which they do but to me, its not a big deal, if it is for you then I don't recommend this bed. Very firm along with a 8 in memory foam mattress and I am completely satisfied. Spent a total of 360 on both and am so very happy as I almost compromised for a bed frame and a mattress I didnt feel comfortable buying for over 700. This for me is a steal!

Pros: Easy Assembly, Great color and quality appearance
Cons: If it matters to you: corner edges do stick out

Comfortable! from Proctor, VT on 07/24/2015 – Verified Buyer
My husband and I needed to quickly get our guest rooms ready to my sister and husband to visit. After realizing that a queen box spring would not fit up our stairs we ordered this platform bed and paid for expedited shipping. It came in just one day! We were able to easily carry the pieces up the stairs and put it together in the guest room. It took my husband about an hour to put it together with little to no grief. My sister and brother-in-law raved about how comfortable it was. My brother-in-law is quite tall with a bad back, but said he slept very well every night of their stay. The bed is good looking and comfortable. Our only complaint is that the corners are sharp, so stay clear when walking around the bed. We're thinking of getting those child safety gadgets for corners to put on them.

Pros: comfortable, easy to put together, nice looking
Cons: corners are sharp
