Hey Elliott, Thanks for the inquiry! The space between mattress and the edge is 5" if you remove the molding. If the molding is not removed, the mattress fits perfectly.

We purchased the bed about a month ago and just put it together. We had previously put together a dresser so we were pros by the time we got to the bed. Easy assembly except when we got to the trim (letter PP and P) You basically had to try to screw this in while lying on your back and this was difficult as there was no holes started for you on the trim itself. So what we did is put the P's into the B1s before we attached the b1s to the bed, then hammer in holes to the PP before we attached that to the bed. This will make more sense to you once you see which piece is which lettering. Other than that, easy assembly.

this bed was simple to put together it arrived earlier then expected and my son loves this bed (we previously had a bed that had slats and the mattress was too heavy for it) this bed can hold alot of weight and is very sturdy

Not exactly what i expected but pretty comfy. Im afraid to put too much weight on it. its comfy for now and looks nice enough, but no headboard and it takes two people to put together. i dont know how well it will do when i move either. it mat be a little expensive for the workmanship but hey.

Great product for the price! Two problems 1) Platform top is not coated back so any free space between mattress and bed is plywood color and 2) We had to use wood glue to get the railing on because there was not enough space to use a screwdriver. Really though, for the price, we are VERY happy and would buy it again!!!!
