a better solution If you're thinking of the full size lookout perch - get a crib/toddler mattress instead. At 52 x 27 the mattress fills the space from armrest to armrest and from front to back seat in a mid size SUV. Placement of at least one front seat all the way back will anchor the mattress securely. No shifting, no space in front for pet to fall off of, no space behind for pet to sink into! A premium mattress is 7" thick, has 200 or more coils, thick padding, waterproof, 20 yr. guarantee, cheaper. Works perfectly for 65 lb. basset hound. Seven foot folding ramp gets him in and out! |

Great Idea! For years, I had been using a pile of dog beds to stuff down onto the seat of my Miata for my copilot to be safe, comfortable and have a better view. I used the pile of dog beds in the bucket seat for my Siberian Gidgit, who went to the Rainbow Bridge in June. While looking for something better for the new baby, Angel, another Siberian, I simply had to try it. First, it was going to be less expensive to do it this way than but the pile of dog beds. Secondly, it was MUCH firmer than the fluffy dog beds I had been using. It is also much easier to take out if needed, and clean than the pile of dog beds. I had looked for a long time for something to accommodate a medium to large sized dog - it seemed like everything was made for toy and small dogs, nothing for a dog that will be 50 pounds when full grown. This one fits perfectly in all directions, and is firm enough to not squish down yet is not hard as a rock either. The one thing that I have had to alter was how it is actually secured to the seat. All there is, is an elastic cord - thin and not tight - that goes around the seat back. When the dog steps on the rear of the cushion, where it meets the seat back, the entire cushion slips forward because the elastic strap is not tight enough or strong enough to keep it snug to the seat. Also, because car seats are all slightly raised where the back of you knees hit, and the cushion is a rectangle without a tapering, it sits lower where the cushion and seat back meet, forming a "V" when the dog in on the cushion. These things are solved in a fairly easy fashion, and the benefits far out-weigh the cons, especially since there is just not that much out there for medium and larger dogs. So, I give it a 4 out of 5, and would recommend it to a friend. |

Not what I was expecting I have a 50lb English Shepherd and an SUV. I got this to make him higher in the seat for the window so that he could sit and not stand to put his head out. It does raise him up, however it doesn't seem to fit securely enough in the seat to be a safety item. It also is just a big piece of upholstery foam with a cover. I thought it said it had a wood support inside, but it does not. Just seems a little pricey for foam with a cover. Also, no instructions and there are clips on the front that I have no idea what to do with... |

Fine Toby and I like the product but we are not sure we have it installed correctly. The instruction sheet is not very clear. Some pictures and/or illustrations would help. I don't know what all the straps are for, etc. I find instruction sheets are typically the poorest part of this on line ordering and there is no one I can go to for help. |

A success story Finally our basset hound can see out the car window when traveling. He no longer cries when riding in the car. A true success story. |

Solved my doggie problem My dog always wants to ride on my lap so he is up high enough to see out of the window. After purchasing the lookout perch, he now is happy to be sitting on the perch instead of my lap, which is just to dangerous! Only con is it is a little bulky in my front seat, but it still works fine! |

Disappointing but still usable My Lookout Perch arrived without any kind of paperwork or instructions, so it is difficult to know how to secure this well to my car to make it a stable platform for my dog. I'm not sure that he is safely restrained when riding on top of this platform. (Of course he wears a harness that is hooked to the seatbelt mechanism, but the PLATFORM is not stable beneath him.) I bought this because he and I both liked the smaller Snoozer Buddy Lookout Perch that suited him when he was a puppy and that WAS possible to secure to the car seat very well. VERDICT: Not worth the money, but still gives my dog a bit of a boost so that he can lie down AND look out the window. The plan was to use this during inter-city trips but I'm not sure I'd want to risk his safety at highway speeds. Disappointing. |

A Great Choice When I was originally researching pet booster seats I didn't think that I was going to find a product for a medium sized dog, as they are mostly made for small dogs. My Hannah is a 29 lb corgie mix. What I needed was a way to secure her and boost her up, while still giving her long body enough space. The lookout perch is perfect for her. It's super easy to install. And you just put the harness attachment piece around the shoulder strap of the seatbelt and then hook it to the dog's harness. She can easily sit up, lay down, and she never tries to jump off the perch until I release her. Before when she wasn't strapped in she would sit well enough in the backseat but she was so low that she would end up getting car sick. The other problem was that as soon as I opened the door to get out, I had to make sure she didn't jump up front and out the door. I didn't want to just restrain her with a seatbelt without making sure she was high enough to look out the window to ease her carsickness. I'm really glad that I invested in this product! |

GREAT with a few tiny problems Product Review My 20 lb dog LOVES his new seat! He's always been anxious in the car and being on his hind legs to see out the window was beginning to pose a discomfort on his aging body. This seat is the PERFECT height for his size. Not only can he see out the side window and windshield perfectly, but the air vents now hit him directly. (Warning, this also makes them nearly the same height as the window – owners please pay attention to your dog's reaching/jumping capabilities) The seatbelt idea they want owners to use is a little odd to me….not quite sure about how to make it work comfortably for my pooch, however, I was able to rig a seatbelt system with another tie and his harness. I have a very small car and the seat cushion itself seemed to slide forward because of the shape of my seat, but I purchased two luggage straps and was able to secure it forcefully to the back of my seat so it doesn't slip at all. The entire outside is machine washable which is great! However, the cushion is made of foam that had a very strong odd "Styrofoam" odor. For three days straight I sprayed it down with FeBreeze and left it out hanging in the sunshine to dry – it now smells BEAUTIFUL – much like our fabric softener so my dog has no qualms about it! One of the best things about the booster is it's the only one I've found that is not enclosed. This openness is a giant plus when you have a dog that's not considered a "toy size" and likes to feel the A/C. Although there are a few things that pose a small challenge in the beginning, with some thinking they are easily overcome. I feel this product is worth the price as my dog is MUCH happier and calmer in the car. It seems that easily looking out the window and actually seeing the action made him feel comfortable! Service Review Delivery was prompt. Product packaging was fine. |
