Akiko is fruit of collaboration between Danish designer Hans Thyge and Japanese designer Akiko Kuwahata. Kuwahata came to Denmark as part of her design studies and worked as trainee at Hans Thyge's architectural practice, RKDO, in Aarhus. Akiko range was named after Kuwahata.
