Nice looking -- but built poorly from San Francisco, CA on 04/16/2015 – Verified Buyer
This bookcase looks very nice, once it's all put together -- but if you're the one who put it together, you know it's only pretending to be quality. It's really made from crumbly particle board, and covered in very nice...contact paper? I'm not sure -- but it sure doesn't look like a true veneer close up. However, from a distance it looks very nice -- and as they say, you get what you pay for. I think it's probably a nice piece of disposable furniture, that will last me until my next move. I cussed like a sailor when I put it together, but it really wasn't too hard (it just crumbles and chips very easily). I'm giving it 4 stars because it does look good in my office, it pretty much serves its purpose, and it is so cheap!

Pros: Looks nice.
Cons: Particle board chips and crumbles very easily.

Nice looking, just don't look too close. from Worcester, MA on 09/19/2015 – Verified Buyer
Assembly instructions were easy and very well written. The box came in very good condition and all pieces were there. It is extremely heavy and I needed to open it on the porch and bring it into the house in pieces. It took about 2 hours to assemble by myself. It was very wobbly during construction, something that concerned me. The backing is just cardboard printed on one side to look like wood, and you can see it when the case is complete. There are many gaps that show the unfinished particle board on the front surfaces, particularly on sides of each shelf. The front moldings are about 1/2 too small. With all that said, as long as you are not looking too hard the unit is very attractive.

Pros: Very well written assembly instructions.
Cons: Gaps in construction and cardboard backing.

A worthwhile purchase from Pawleys Island, SC on 02/25/2015 – Verified Buyer
Finding a bookcase is difficult but Wayfair has a large selection and I found what I was looking for at a fair price. It came quickly and was in perfect condition. Instructions were unclear in some places but I was able to figure it out. Once assembled it looked great. It should be noted that it's best to assemble with two people. Also, it is important to get the nails positioned correctly on the backing otherwise you end up splitting the shelves. It took about 2 hours to assemble. I am pleased with my purchase and would recommend this bookcase.

Terrible product; purchase something else from Houston, TX on 11/21/2015 – Verified Buyer
Extremely disappointed with this product. Have purchased other Sauder (and other brands) of furniture that needs to be assembled. What makes it so terrible is that the sides of the book case come in two pieces. So the left side is two pieces, and the right side is two pieces. What you have it an unstable product. I should have known when the instructions stated not to stand it up without the back or it will come apart (obviously in different words). After I finished putting it together and needed to turn it over to nail the back on, the plastic dowels that were holding the top and bottom pieces of the size broke. So you can probably get the product to hold books, but don't ever expect to move because it will fall apart with moving it from one location to another. Add to that, that it took me almost two hours to put it together.

Additionally, two pieces were damaged when I got it. Not Wayfair's fault, but the packaging by Sauder. The box was in tact and not damaged; however, the pieces seemed to be damaged when they were first put in the box (nothing to do with shipping). Had it been just the one piece, I would not have asked for a replacement, but the front molding part had a huge crack the whole length of the piece. Buy another product that is better quality and sturdy.

Pros: Nothing
Cons: Poor design, not sturdy, expensive for the quality, more difficult to put together vs. other products, damaged pieces

Very nicely crafted from San Clemente, CA on 12/02/2014 – Verified Buyer
Although you have to put the pieces together yourself, the end product looks very nice. I think it is made from a wood laminate, but it looks like real wood. It is also very heavy so probably not going to be tippy.

Pros: It took awhile to put these together, but the instructions were clearly written and accompanied by photos.
Cons: The back of the bookcase is covered cardboard. Hopefully, the items we put on the shelves will hide the seams.

keep looking from Hemet, CA on 08/28/2015 – Verified Buyer
WOW!! I spent 2 hours putting this bookcase together for my son. As soon as I opened the box it came in I was disappointed, it was pressed wood and the back panels were cheap cardboard that was already damaged from delivery. I decided to give it a chance, afterall its for my 14 year old son...it was one thing after another, the one positive thing I have to say were the directions were very user friendly! That is it. So we go to move this unit to his desired room location AND the bottom 1/2 just falls off! breaks off from the cheap particle wood, it was almost 10PM and I told my son to forget it we are calling the company 1st thing in the morning and requesting our money back! I purchase a bookshelf for my daughter at Pottery Barn Kids and what a difference! It is true when your parents tell you, "You get what you pay for".
Avoid yourself a headache and keep looking or save yourself some cash and buy it at Wal Mart!.

Cons: PArticle Wood, not sturdy, cheap material.

Delighted from Kansas on 05/29/2013 – Verified Buyer
I have looked all over the internet to find a bookcase to replace one that was water damaged. This exceeded my expectations in durability, construction, and eye appeal. It really looks like real wood and very rich in color. It was relatively easy for my husband to put together, and it is heavy and solid. If you want a great looking bookcase and don't want to pay the wood price, I recommend you go for this one.

Very nice piece of furniture from West Manchester, OH on 03/11/2013 – Verified Buyer
Extremely happy with my purchased. It really looks like a high-end piece of furniture. Especially compared to other bookcases at approximately the same price. The really nice features are the shelf fronts and the top piece of the bookcase. There are none of those little cams or dowels that hold the pieces together. The assembly was somewhat challenging, but I can't complain because my husband put it together.

Really like this bookcase from Mansfield, TX on 03/10/2014 – Verified Buyer
It is a very nice bookcase for a very reasonable price. The color was a perfect match to what was shown on the computer. My only caution is to be careful when nailing in the back. Make sure your nails are lined up with the middle of the shelves or else the nail will damage the top or bottom of the shelf.

Great quality bookcase! from Ellendale, ND on 05/26/2014 – Verified Buyer
This bookcase was purchased for my son. Mostly to hold books, video games and magazine binders. It does the job and beautifully. It took about an hour and a half for two of us to build. Every thing was included and only needed a screwdriver and a hammer. Was not difficult. It is very heavy and good looking. The trim pieces went together well and look really nice. The finished product looks much more expensive than it is. I would highly recommend it!
