Rukotvorine is a family-owned furniture and accessories manufacturer from Bosnia and Herzegovina, founded in 1927 by Adem Niksic. Rukotvorine is well known in South East Europe as the producer of heirloom quality hand-carved furniture in solid European hardwoods (primarily walnut, maple and cherry). Adem developed this entirely new furniture style, which has come to be known as the „Bosnian Konjic style“. His pieces found home in the residencies and offices in the countries of South-Central Europe.
Today several pieces of Rukotvorine’s furniture are under the State protection as part of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s national cultural heritage. Their products and the woodcarving technique perfected through four generations of carvers were featured in a UNESCO publication on exceptional craftsmanship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now, efforts are underway to include the Konjic woodcarving technique in the UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
Today the company continues to espouse the hand-carving techniques developed by Adem, but in cooperation with some of the most talented designers in our region, it has in recent years been developing exceptionally unique and authentic modern designer furniture. Rukotvorine’s products were awarded the prestigious Interior Innovation Award at the IMM Cologne in both 2011 and 2012. In January 2011 Rukotvorine launched it’s sister company in the United States under the name Manulution.
