JJ from Pearl River, LA	4.0 9/10/2011 Not cherry but nice noe the less I expected something close to cherry but this piece is a med dark oak. As others have said it is pungent out of the box. Used a large scented candle to counteract the odor. The easiest piece to put together I have purchased to date. 15 minutes by myself and the AV equipment was being installed. Unpack, unfold, slip on sides, place in floor, and 4 screws for the top and you are done. It took me longer to unpack and move the pieces to the bedroom than to assemble it.
