These are truly beautiful fixtures, extremely well built, and they bring an artful touch to recessed, can lighting. Our kitchen is quite large and an open design. These lights provide perfect ambient lighting in the center of the kitchen. The 30watt bulbs are very bright and the frosted glass disperses the light perfectly. This is the only style can light you can use for a ceiling framed with 2x6. Regular 6" can lights and the "shallow" 6" can lights only work for ceilings framed with > or = 2x8 materials. The exception to this would be open attic space above the framework, in which case you then need to check for insulation issues. Do not place this fixture in direct contact with insulation because of a potential fire hazard. Compact flourecent bulbs are highly recommended. They are now available for can lights and have the same appearance as standard 6" can light bulbs. These bulbs will greatly reduce the chance of fire."..."  Read more

I've installed two of these to replace similar 30 year old ceiling fixtures. They are designed with enough flexiablity that one can do the wiring box first then slide it through the opening in the side. This is a big plus if you don't have a lot of exsisting house wire to work with (i.e. it's too short) I also ordered the optional mounting brackets but decided it was much easier to drill a few holes in the sides of these new fixtures that match up with the the old mounting brackets all ready present. Quite frankly I think the optional mounting brackets would only work for new construction. Too bad as that was wasted money. These lights have a nice mirror dome reflector inside that really helps increase the amount of light as well."..."  Read more
