This is the only style can light you can use for a ceiling framed with 2x6. Regular 6" can lights and the "shallow" 6" can lights only work for ceilings framed with > or = 2x8 materials. The exception to this would be open attic space above the framework, in which case you then need to check for insulation issues. Do not place this fixture in direct contact with insulation because of a potential fire hazard. Compact flourecent bulbs are highly recommended.
