Listening to Patrick Rampelotto talk about his ideas and projects, about progress in the development of forms or in the collaboration with craftspeople, his enthusiasm with his work leaves no doubt that he is on the right way. Born in 1978 in Vipiteno, South Tyrol, he initially studied law to switch to Industrial Design at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna, in 2000. During his studies, that he completed in 2006, he was preoccupied with the materials glass, silicone and felt, with the combination of traditional crafts and hi-tech-production methods and with, amongst others, the writing of the French anthropologist and ethnologist Claude Lévi-Strauss. In Lévi-Strauss' “The savage mind“ he encountered the term bricolage, which remains until today – after many independent design- and exhibition projects, to briefly sum up the years since graduation – an important intellectual impulse.
The design of the stool is based on traditional archetypes, their basic simplicity in form and function. The organically shaped seat is supported by tapered legs made of oiled European oak. The seat itself is generously proportioned for comport, its material tactile and contemporary. The ends of the legs are threaded and screwed into the seat, a connection that is both simple and sophisticated given the two very different materials of the joint.
