I occasionally have to go away for from one to several days and use this to feed my semi-feral cats. So much easier to set this up to feed twice a day than impose on friends and neighbors. I do have to suspend this from an arbor with bungie cords so raccoons, skunks, 'possums and squirrels don't tear it apart. I cut an opening in the side a rubber bucket and fitted a collapsible plastic downspout (not using the removable dish that comes with the device) so the food actually hits the dish. Also found that you CAN'T pick up the feeder by the hopper top or it will separate and food will go everywhere so I usually keep a flat bungie cord around the whole assembly. Now, I would really like to be able to buy a sturdy, untippable, varmint-proof box just for this that lets the food out the bottom. I'm planning to build something soon.

I have had an auto feeder before and thought I would try this one. I should have stuck to my first kind... bistro brand. I found I have to have this duck taped and on a metal cookie sheet to keep it together. I would live with that if the programing would work well. Talk about a simple functioning situation gone complicated would be an understatement. You need to always have the directions at hand.... and then hope you have it correct -waiting to see if it does what you set. Not the type of food service you want to use just before a vacation. In all honesty... this unit feels like the original design was great but when it came to producing them for the mass public - all corners were cut. The locking lid is on so tight - humans can't get it off --BUT the "box" will just snap-off when you pick it up. The measure units is not actuate... and one can work around that to a certain point... unless you are down to the lows setting and it is kicking the food out like a popcorn machine. I like the 'shake' idea but not really needed and the voice idea would be ok, I guess if it actually had a speaker worth anything. The clock/programming on the back of the unit is ridicules because you can not check on the unit without moving it(on it's cookie sheet)... and one would generally place a food dish of any kind against a wall or ?? and not sitting out in the middle of the floor.

This is a good feeder when it works. If used indoors I would expel it to be fantastic. I have some outdoor cats and use it to feed them. Naturally I am also feeding other animals like possums, raccoons, and other cats. These animals will destroy the feeder if it is not protected in a sturdy box where only the feed tray is available. I made one and things normally work great. Occasionally an animal will reach under the wood box at the feed dispensing area and they can pull out / break the sensor wires.

We have been using the feeder for a month without any problems.

As there were no instructions in the box with the feeder, it could not be programmed and the batteries that I am sure have gone dead by now were quite an expense.
too much food

The programming was easy to follow but the volume measurements are off. I have it set at the lowest setting and it puts out way more food. I solved it by only having it drop once a day but it's impossible to regulate diet.

Good product for auto feeding my cats. Only problem is that my cats are outside and the raccoons seem to know how to open it better than I can. This is best for indoor use. I now have it in a small cat building and it is secured so the raccoons can not get into it any longer.

it broke after one use spent a little more then I wanted thinking it would be more reliable but I would never trust this machine with my pet
So far not what I hoped.

I bought this for my mother so she would be able to visit the family without having to rush home to feed her dog. It worked beautifully for the first few days. But since then it has jammed twice. She calls me very early in the morning and I have to talk her through the process of reprogramming it. I am going to see if there is something she missed when I go to her house this weekend. I don't want to but I may have to return it.

We've been using this for two days now and its okay but there are some things I don't like that is why the 4 stars instead of 5. I set it to where it will feed him 1 cup in the morning and evening but it doesn't give a cup so I had to set the setting up one. Also you have to move the food down in order for it to finish giving him the food which is stupid.. I do like the recording part and it was very easy to program which was good.. I was worried that this wouldn't work since his food is a little big and moist but I was wrong it did.. My poor baby puppy runs every time the food machine comes on due to it scaring him but then he goes straight to it and eats )
