Great Deal for the Price from Arlington, Virginia on 09/28/2009
This is a fine looking headboard, giving an appearance far richer than its actual construction, which is fairly flimsy, although VERY heavy, particle-board. We are using it in our master bedroom.

Because it's a headboard and we don't actually attach our bed to it in any structural sense, it doesn't have to take any abuse, so its flimsiness of construction is not a real drawback. Its bookshelf design is very useful and attractive, and was something I was unable to find in any furniture store.

We have an oversized Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress that is slightly too tall for this design. There of course were no options for taller "feet," so we solved the problem by setting it onto 4x4 blocks of wood. It's an effective, if somewhat inelegant, solution.

It arrives in a flat, elongated box that opens to reveal a large number of fairly nondescript rectangular pieces of particle board. This starts out to be a bit confusing, and the instructions, as usual with furniture that needs assembly, consists of wordless pictograms. But the pieces turn out to be fairly easy to identify, and the pieces fit together unusually well and easily, resulting in somewhat less cursing than is generally encountered during assembly of items of this kind.

Because the pictogram is unclear, we installed one piece of trim backward. Attempting to remove it resulted in the unavoidable breaking of the unnecessarily flimsy plastic dowels that attached it to the main headboard, leaving parts of the dowels both in the trim and in the headboard. They could not be removed manually or with any kind of pliers, so we had to drill them out with a drill and replace them with wooden dowels we got at a local hardware store. Had they used regular wooden dowels rather than these stupid plastic ones, or had the instructions been clearer, we would not have had this problem.

We like it and have bought the identical style for a single bed we have, and bought similar side tables from this same vendor (BedroomFurniture.com). I recommend this to anyone who wants a bargain on a very nice looking, exceptionally useful headboard and doesn't have some childish compulsion to impress snooty, nitpicking friends.

WARNING: Some hammering is required, and while some of it can be done with a regular hammer, some of it MUST be done with a rubber mallet that won't mar the finish, or some other method must be employed to protect it from dents.

Just what we wanted from Suburban Chicago on 05/27/2010
We are very happy with this headboard, especially for the price. It took us about 3 hrs to assemble. It's beautiful in our room and has so much space. We have assembled a fair amount of RTA furniture in our time. We had no trouble with the instructions on this item. [...]It's not completely out of the question that one person could assemble alone; but you should have two people working together. One person can work ahead on certain steps to prep the panels for the other person. The "complaints" I have would be:1. There's one step where you attach two L-brackets. We did not find pre-drilled pilot holes to tell us EXACTLY where to put those brackets. We originally spaced them too far apart and then noticed they didnt pull the front panel flush as they should have. So we had to take them out and put them on again. It was not easy and took a lot of time to deal with these brackets. It was one step in the instructions that said it would take 2 minutes but it took more like 45. Maybe we missed the pilot holes but I dont think so because we looked closely.2. There are no holes cut in the back panel that you can put electrical cords through. This seems to be common on almost all RTA headboards recently (this king size one is the fourth one we have purchased since 2007) and I dont know why. Where is the cord for your alarm clock supposed to go? On other units we purchased, we used a keyhole drill bit to cut our own holes. On this unit, we had an innovative brainstorm and decided to LEAVE OFF THE BACK PANEL COMPLETELY. It looks GREAT this way because we just painted our walls and you see the nice color of the wall in the squares of the headboard and there is no trouble with cords.3. When we put the top panel on, we could not get the black pegs to push down flat into the center upright panels. You cant tell because of the trim piece on the front, but it was annoying that even when my husband sat on it, the panels wouldnt snap together as they should. I dont know what causes this - some error we made or the holes not drilled right, etc.Other notes:1. You should take the time to sort and count all the pieces before beginning. It really helps - not just for this item - you should always do that when assembling anything.2. From our experience with the three other RTA headboards we have (another Prepac and two SouthShore) you definitely CANNOT let water stand on the surface. If you're in the habit as we are of having a cup of water by your bedside, you need to keep the cup on a plastic tray or coaster or something like that. Continuous contact with water/moisture will bubble and degrade the surface.3. Do heed the warning in the instructions to not pound the black pegs in too deep or they will crack the top surface of the headboard. We made that mistake on the white Prepac headboard we own, so we were very careful with this new Cherry one when we did the pegs.In closing, we would recommend this headboard. It's stable and not wobbly and looks great.

Headboard came quickly and exactly as described from Milwaukee, WI on 12/29/2014 – Verified Buyer
I couldn't find a better deal than this headboard! Ordered a couple of weeks before Christmas and it was on sale and had free shipping! It came several days ahead of schedule, which made me even happier. My husband and I were able to assemble it in about an hour. The directions weren't fantastic, but we managed with the pictures. It is pretty sturdy once assembled, though some may need to attach it to their bed. We were able to just wedge it between our bed frame and wall, and it sits there just fine with no problems. The color of the wood is exactly as it looks in the picture and is described, and has a very nice look. I was so thrilled to be able to find this kind of quality headboard with a bookcase style for this price! It really completes our bedroom.

Excellent value from South Orange, NJ on 03/03/2015 – Verified Buyer
This headboard was exactly what I needed. I had a platform bed, but the pillows kept falling behind the bed. This headboard does not need to be attached to the bed or wall, but stands on its own. It is sturdy and attractive - does not look or feel inexpensive at all! I do recommend having two people to assemble all the pieces, and one should have a rubber mallet to pound in some of the pegs into holes with finished "wood," along with an electric drill/ screwdriver to make the assembly go a bit faster. It took a few hours to assemble (with two people) but was not difficult. I am glad I purchased this piece.

This is nicer than expected! from Maryland on 08/15/2010 – Verified Buyer
This headboard is the best I found in our price range and I am very happy with it. I think it's one of those things that you can spend [$] or choose the alternative which is very expensive, no mid range. It is very heavy when delivered and the king size we got is a long box of course. It was somewhat difficult to assemble and even though we followed directions we still had one of the pegs go through the top shelf of the headboard. We sent an email to the company to explain and we were very pleased to be responded to immedietly with the notification of a new top being sent to us[...]I am very pleased with this company and would absolutely purchase again. The headboard looks very nice and classy assembled. Lots of storage space and seems sturdy enough for our use. Overall, very satisfied. One thing we chose to do is to not put the backboard in place but just let our wall be the backboard. This makes cord and cleaning issues much easier and still looks great.

practical from Pittstown, NJ on 03/23/2014 – Verified Buyer
Its a nice product, a little cumbersome to get together, but works well. Would've preferred a regular, simple headboard, but my husband thought we should try this one. Cons are definitely that it isn't connected to your bedframe so there is some movement especially if you can't have it lay flush against your wall because you have molding on the bottom. We didn't attach the flimsy back piece so we could have chargers and cords go in. The up shelf sticks an inch over your bed so if you become a bit complacent there may be some head hits Good price though for what it is and functional. Color was true to the photosphotos

Quality by todays standards from Blue Ridge, GA on 04/29/2015 – Verified Buyer
We are very happy with this headboard. It came with a slightly damaged top; but we were sent a replacement top right away. It was easy to assemble and fits our bed perfectly. The replacement didn't come with enough dowels, but I was able to reuse some of the old ones.

Pros: Easy to assemble.
Cons: Wish it was Oak colored instead of Cherry.

My husband love this headboard from Sparks, NV on 06/25/2015 – Verified Buyer
As with all items that need assembling, the instructions need to be read carefully. We added a hole in the backing so a clock could be placed on a shelf. It looks beautiful and is functional.

Pros: the finish is beautiful and the color goes will with the other bedroom furntiure
Cons: the pressed wood does make it heavy to move

Good quality from Redwood City, CA on 12/19/2015 – Verified Buyer
The final product is great quality, more than you'd expect for the money. It was really tricky to put together and definitely a two person job... You need a power drill and hammer to do it. Instructions weren't clear sometimes, took us nearly two hours. But worth it for the product.
