Pro's: Light weight, tool pallet compatible, durable. Con's: Aluminum hinge, locks not "TSA compatible". I've been a Machine-tool Field Engineer for 25 years, traveling the Continental US & Mexico. This is my "go-to" tool case, especially for air travel. I've tried them all, and keep on coming back to this case (this one is # 5). It will easily handle more than 50 Lbs of tools & equipment! You can expect this toolbox to survive at least 400 flights... I get at least 3 years use out of one, working full time including a HEAVY flight schedule. I prefer a basic case like this, combined with a folding luggage cart. With this setup I can handle the tool case (45-50 Lb), a duffel with clothes, extra tools & manuals (40 Lb), and my computer/document bag (15 Lb). I've had multiple handle and wheel failures on cases that incorporate them... they just can't seem to handle that 100 Lb load. My only real complaints: 1) the aluminum hinge will "stretch" when debris becomes lodged in the groove around the frame edge... (small loose screws & electrical connectors, etc) 2) the locks on the latches remain "old-school" key type. I'd prefer a "TSA" lock, but I continue to live with this box, as the alternatives that incorporate TSA locks or hasps are not as durable or a lot more expensive. Bottom Line: If you're buying your own equipment and/or travel a lot, this box is a winner. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"..."  Read more

This is a sturdy tool case for traveling. The TSA style lock with the half turn latches make for a secure case that will stay closed for air travel. The pallets that are included, don't do me much good. I have too many things that do not fit in the pockets, so I lay a removable tool bag inside. My socket set and PPE,s fit in also. The tool case has two sections beside the handle that gives small items a place to stay without loosing them. The lid has a document pocket area, but I have put two small compartment containers there instead. I am going to purchase more of these Platt cases."..."  Read more

I go through a case in about 16 months. I've had other main brands and both are good. I like the pallets of platt cases and the handle. The buckles of both cases are always the weak link. They work great new, but wear in a few months. But I must consider, I am opening and closing 7-8-9 times daily with a full set of tools, I'm lucky to to have it last a year. I looked at and rejected several cases before finding this one. This one has good quality and capacity at a good price. I needed two tool pallets and enough depth to hold some instrumentation.
