Portable Tool Storage

Pro's: Light weight, tool pallet compatible, durable. Con's: Aluminum hinge, locks not "TSA compatible". I've been a Machine-tool Field Engineer for 25 years, traveling the Continental US & Mexico. This is my "go-to" tool case, especially for air travel. I've tried them all, and keep on coming back to this case (this one is # 5). It will easily handle more than 50 Lbs of tools & equipment! You can expect this toolbox to survive at least 400 flights... I get at least 3 years use out of one, working full time including a HEAVY flight schedule. I prefer a basic case like this, combined with a folding luggage cart. With this setup I can handle the tool case (45-50 Lb), a duffel with clothes, extra tools & manuals (40 Lb), and my computer/document bag (15 Lb). I've had multiple handle and wheel failures on cases that incorporate them... they just can't seem to handle that 100 Lb load. My only real complaints: 1) the aluminum hinge will "stretch" when debris becomes lodged in the groove around the frame edge... (small loose screws & electrical connectors, etc) 2) the locks on the latches remain "old-school" key type. I'd prefer a "TSA" lock, but I continue to live with this box, as the alternatives that incorporate TSA locks or hasps are not as durable or a lot more expensive. Very useful for organizing flat objects and easy to stack these boxes in my car and storage facility. Very well constructed and I appreciate that the box closes well with the lid fitting onto the main box so that I don't have to struggle with closing the clasp. Putting objects inside with low to moderate weight also doesn't seem to deform it causing the clasp to not close, like I see in so many other storage boxes. It also seems water tight although I haven't tested it out. The clasp doesn't fall apart like so many storage box clasps and seems durable. You have to distribute the objects in the box judiously, however, since overweighting the front or back side will make it tilt when carrying it by the handle. I have been using the old standard Craftsman boxes for years. I probably own 7 by now. A few Kennedys also. It finally occurred to me when I bought a Keter parts storage box (another great item ! ) that cantilever tool storage lets you get the tool faster with less digging. Highly recommended, it has speeded up my work & made me more efficient. I use soft bags for the battery powered stuff & this box for hand tools. Go out & treat yourself: Buy one (or two.......) I'm in the HVAC/Refrigeration trade and this tool tote is in my opinion "super duper". It holds all of the tools that I need for 90% of the repairs that I do. I can see the tools at a glance so I don't have to "fish" into a tool box or bag to find something. This also cuts down on lost tools. The drawer portion is perfect for those small items that always are at the very bottom of a bag or pouch or become an unmanageable jumbled mess in other portable tool storage systems."..."  Read more
