Zen Bathroom Table for Vessel Sinks
5 stars I had looked at this sink on-line at various sites for about 3 years. I had another sink from Porcher in my garage and it was still crated after about 4 years. I had been pondering a renovation of my powder room and the first Porcher vanity was about 3 inches too large, but I had loved it. I had not seen the Arcus Cabinet for many years since it was still in the crated box, but my memory was of great satisfaction.
Long story short, I did not have any money to get around to this bathroom and I was paralyzed trying to make a decision about an alternate vanity that was within plumbers code. This vanity was perfect! I had seen other vanities in stores, but they didn't have that Zen feel. They were country, traditional, or contemporary; but not Zen. I was so nervous about purchasing a vanity that I had not seen in person and this Zen vanity still had the same 28 inch table top that had gotten me in trouble with the Arcus cabinet!
The miracle of this vanity is that it is 28 inches across the table but the legs are 19 inches wide and are centered beneath the 28 inches. A few years ago a designer told me that would resolve my plumbing code violation issue and my plumber verified this fact when I got ready to click the button on this bad boy. When the sink arrived I was in heaven, for real this time. It had body, texture, presence, and everything all wrapped into one piece of furniture. The frosted glass was beautiful and perfect for holding three Japanese lanterns. I felt like I had been French kissed by a real French person! ~ Heaven.
Caveat: Earlier, I had the pipes cut out of the wall according to the specs on the website since the sink would arrive in about a week. The location of the plumbing is different than that of the photo pictured here and on all websites. The plumbing is spec'd to exit the wall much lower so we needed an extension pipe of about 6 inches to add to the p-trap in order to reach the vessel. This change was even more gorgeous to have since it presented so much exposed plumbing!
Also, my plumber/general contractor was surprised that the wood on this cabinet was not wood at all, though. When he cut the hole for the vessel sink and faucet fixture, he saw a lot of composite and that bothered him for the price of the cabinet. Both he and the painter are concerned of eventual water damage to the table top. I keep it dry since I am not sure about the durability for the future. The table top wood grain looks wonderful though and you just don't want to cover it with granite or marble. It needs to be seen because it is adds to the Zen.
