This is a wonderful cooler! I use it for the beach and the lake. It keeps drinks cold and had a perfect place at the top to store food and side and front pockets to store sunscreen, hats, and other objects you want take with you. Also has a clip to hook keys in the front pocket for easy access. Liner doesn't leak. Perfect for use by backpack or roller. Heavy duty and doesn't fall apart. It seemed like it might be a little small for me, but I am going to be sending one of these bags to my sis and her family for Christmas. They have 3 kids so they would only need to fit 5 lunch containers in the cooler part. What I liked about this bag is that the insulated part is on the bottom and it has a nice open mesh part for the top. I liked that it seemed smaller and more compact than our big backpack so I thought maybe it would be more manageable for the big kids to carry. When the bag arrived I was pleasantly surprised! This was a sturdy bag.It was very comfortable to wear, even for my 10 yo. The insulated part on the bottom is heavy duty, not some thin foil plastic you see in some soft sided coolers. The bottom section held exactly 5 divided Ziploc lunch containers (I could squeeze 6 if I really stretched it or put one in sideways but you really don't want to do that). It also has extra room enough on the side for two regular plastic water bottles. I had to check out how big that top mesh part was. I was able to fit 5 lightweight fleece jackets in that top section! FIVE! Or you could easily fit a diaper wallet and a picnic blanket in the top section, or even towels and sunscreen. It has two pockets. The one on the front is big enough for a wallet, keys, cell phone, hand sanitizer, lip balm, point and shoot camera, etc. Then there is another little pocket on the top flap that goes over the mesh section. This is a thinner pocket but could easily hold some money, credit cards, zoo passes, or even a small pocket field guide.One thing it doesn't have is an easily accessible water bottle carrier. That would be nice to have built in, there are a few places where you could easily attach one with a carabiner type ring. Other than that, it looks like it would be a great day bag for ANY type of outing where you would want to take a lunch along. This bag really caught my eye. It is less like a backpack and more .... stylish. And truly it looked like it might be slightly bigger which I need for my family of 7. I chose the green one and I was surprised by the quality of these bags. They are super heavy duty! The insulated part is nice and thick, which gives the bag it's shape no matter how full it is. So here came the real test.... how many Ziploc divided lunch containers fit inside? 7 boxes! It's true. Exactly seven, with just a little more room. Enough for our whole family to have a nice cool lunch. The fit of the lunch boxes in this bag is a little snug so nothing extra will fit on the sides. Drinks would have to be popped in the very top if there is room. (Of course if you have less than 5 kids and two adults you have to feed then you might have lots of extra room!) There is also no extra room for jackets or towels or much of anything else for my family, but there may be more room for your family. There are two cute little side pockets that would actually hold quite a bit, a camera, sunglasses, cell phone, etc. Then there are 3 flat pockets on the front, two with zippers. One of them is big enough for a full size magazine, or maybe a newspaper. The others are smaller but could easily fit cards, or an ipod or iphone, possibly even an ipad, (which I don't have to try out... but you know, I could imagine). While this one is cute, and it fits all the lunches for our whole family it is not quite as practical 1) it doesn't have much room for extras, 2)doesn't have an easy attachment for a water bottle, 3) since it is not a backpack it might be more difficult to carry if you don't have a stroller, a wagon or a car to cart it around (because it is so cute, you might have a hard time getting hubby to carry this one too.) I can see us using this one in the car for long trips, or on picnics where walking around all day isn't part of the plan. I can also imagine it sitting in a cute wagon being carted around by my kids to our perfect picnic spot at the zoo. BUT I don't have a wagon either so I guess I will just keep dreaming....at least I have a cute stylish bag that I can carry myself. This product tolerated a road trip and National Park visit very well. It was used daily and we were in and out of it all of the time yet it kept things cool. The wheels worked well on a packed dirt path with some gravel and sand and the back pack option was handy when rain and mud was best avoided.
