Use a smooth surface - I used a plastic chopping board that wasnt smooth and it was impossible to scrape all of the garlic off of it. I will continue to use the crusher with some adjustments and I have already found another use for it - crushing the meat chunks in cat food pouches with the pouch unopened (if I dont, my cats just lick the gravy off and leave the meat).
