I like homemade french fries. I've kinda gotten used to french fry makers being disposable - the thin cutter blades just don't stand up against the potatoes for long. This is the first horizontal cutter I have owned, since pushing down always seemed to make more sense to me.
First, these blades seem to be thinner and tougher than most, so the potato doesn't push against them as much. Second, they are sharp! I don't know how long they will remain this way, but for now they do a great job of slicing through the potato.
I did have to make one adjustment - don't let the potato sit in the holder - it will sometimes adjust when the cut starts and then the cutter tries to push the potato down, which just jams the whole works and puts a lot of stress on the blade. Instead, lift the potato up a bit so there is some room for it to adjust up or down as the cutter moves."..." Read more
