This is a big stand and easy to assemble and fill with sand or pea gravel. Overall I'm satisfied w/my purchase but would like to see the manufacturer consider a metal housing mechanism that is taller on the threads underneath the base. You have to screw this closed and using pliers as they instruct, the plastic in lieu of a stronger metal made this difficult to screw till 2 thread were showing. The plastic tends to bend and if not careful the tabs can start to tear. I think had the housing here been constructed of metal and the cap/closure made taller (there is room under the base) it would have been a 4 1/2 star product. Had the collar on the stand been constructed of metal housing it would have been a 5 star product. As it is, that too is plastic and regardless of how tight you screw the collar down the umbrella does have some sway. Partly this may be due to the fact that entire collar is somewhat pyramidal in shape instead of perfectly straight. Overall, it's a good stand for the money and lightweight unfilled making it easy to store and ship if you plan to move. I used 1 1/2 bags of pea gravel to fill mine and it took me less than an hour to fill. I used to plastic Solo drink cups as funnels. One I cut a hole in the bottom slightly smaller than the opening you fill at and sat it down over the opening. The other cup I used to fill that cup with gravel and filling proceeded far faster than using a standard funnel with a more narrow neck. For sand the standard funnel may work very well. For gravel I would suggest improvising your own. My Solo plastic cups worked really well for gravel though and it took a lot less gravel to achieve the weight as well. The roller on the bottom is a big plus. It moves the stand smoothly across my deck boards and some of them aren't exactly level after 7 years. Nice sturdy molded-in built in handle for moving it as well and aside from the plastic housing pieces used in lieu of a sturdy metal, I would still recommend this product. It is big (22" diameter base and once filled you can adjust it to the weight needed to support the height of your own particular umbrella (the taller they are and whether they are free standing or table lodged depends upon the weight you need in addition to the environment you live in.) For these reasons I see this stand as a very versatile one. I like that."..."  Read more

I bought this to hold down a free standing 7' market umbrella. Nothing else we tried worked because of the occasional storms we get in North Texas. Well so far it has stood up to everything that mother natures has thrown at it. I have even forgotten to close the umbrella on a couple really windy days, but it held fast.The only modification I did was to drill a hole through this and the umbrella post and inserted a bold. This keeps the umbrella from turning in the base and makes it impossible for the wind to pull it out.This stand came with everything you would need for different size posts.
