As expected from BENTON, AR on 10/16/2014 – Verified Buyer
The cost of the umbrella base was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it is a good value. It is what I expected and was as described. Other reviewers said they found it hard to fill because their sand was wet. I ran into the same problem. It would have gone a lot faster and easier with dry sand and a funnel. After putting in a bag of sand there was a little room left, so I topped it off with water to give it more weight. When the cap is screwed on, it's permanent. Be sure it is as full as you want before putting the cap on. The handle on the side makes it easy to handle once it's filled. Holds my 9' market umbrella very well. If you're looking for a good basic, no frills base, I'd recommend this one.

Patio Umbrella Base in Black from Laredo, TX on 08/25/2013 – Verified Buyer
Sturdy plastic which can be filled either with water or sand. Just be careful, I regretfully did not read instructions, just took cap out of plastic bag when unpacking (missed reading little bag) and screwed the cap on, so I could transport to fill and not misplace the cap. Please, DO NOT PLACE CAP ON UNTIL YOU FILL FIRST. If you accidentally, like I did, place the cap on, I contacted manufacturer for a replacement in case I damaged the cap open, but was told to use a pair of pliers and that would work. The thread has very good thread and locking teeth (gear like).

I was smart though, I did not do the same with the other three bases I bought! hahahahaha!

good product, just don't fill with water as some reviews suggested from Mesa, AZ on 04/02/2015 – Verified Buyer
Item matches description. It was plastered all over the packaging to wait to screw on cap until fully filled and several reviews indicated this was not the case.
I filled it with water as a quick fix and now I see why sand is suggested… the water is slowly leaking out. I have no one to blame but my impatient self for this since I did not have sand on hand.

Not a bad stand for a small umbrella on a non-windy day. from Appleton, WI on 08/24/2015 – Verified Buyer
Make sure the sand is dry...makes filling the container super easy and fast with a funnel. Don't put the cap on until you are certain it is full enough. Cap is a one time thing.

Pros: Great or small umbrellas on a low wind day.
Cons: The post does not go all the way to the ground. The center hole stops about 4 inches into the base and about 1.5 inches from the ground.

Ms. from Beaumont, CA on 07/07/2014 – Verified Buyer
I live in a windy area, so I needed a strong base for my umbrella patio table. This one serves my needs well because it holds 50 lbs of sand and is quite attractive with black table. When the wind isn't too strong I can open my umbrella half way and trust the base to support it. Of course, on very windy days the umbrella stays closed. When I want to move my table and base to another location, all I'll have to do it empty out the sand. Great item!

Product matches the description. from Savage, MD on 07/21/2015 – Verified Buyer
The hole to fill this base is not much larger than on a liter soda bottle. Beware of this before choosing the media with which to fill this weight.

Pros: Heavy duty plastic
Cons: Media fill hole size

Umbrella base from crossville, TN on 09/02/2015 – Verified Buyer
This is a nice black base that goes great with our black market umbrella. Takes a lot of sand so it is sturdy and it has a nice fastener at the bottom that you screw in to secure the umbrella pole. Very reasonable price too!

Pros: Very easy to assemble
Cons: none

Easy to fill umbrella base from Little Elm, TX on 08/25/2015 – Verified Buyer– Top 500 Reviewer
I decided to fill mine with fish tank gravel, bought a 20 lb. bag at a
good price and used a funnel to fill it. Not as decorative as a cast iron
one, but since I'm using it for a small 20 inch cast iron patio table and
a five foot umbrella it works fine. I say Thumbs UP!

Easy to use...fill with water. Heavy and sturdy. In fall, empty water and its light and easy to store.
