The cost of the umbrella base was a little more than I wanted to spend, but it is a good value. It is what I expected and was as described. Other reviewers said they found it hard to fill because their sand was wet. I ran into the same problem. It would have gone a lot faster and easier with dry sand and a funnel. After putting in a bag of sand there was a little room left, so I topped it off with water to give it more weight. When the cap is screwed on, it's permanent. Be sure it is as full as you want before putting the cap on. The handle on the side makes it easy to handle once it's filled. Holds my 9' market umbrella very well. If you're looking for a good basic, no frills base, I'd recommend this one.
Patio Umbrella Base in Black

Sturdy plastic which can be filled either with water or sand. Just be careful, I regretfully did not read instructions, just took cap out of plastic bag when unpacking (missed reading little bag) and screwed the cap on, so I could transport to fill and not misplace the cap. Please, DO NOT PLACE CAP ON UNTIL YOU FILL FIRST. If you accidentally, like I did, place the cap on, I contacted manufacturer for a replacement in case I damaged the cap open, but was told to use a pair of pliers and that would work. The thread has very good thread and locking teeth (gear like).

I live in a windy area, so I needed a strong base for my umbrella patio table. This one serves my needs well because it holds 50 lbs of sand and is quite attractive with black table. When the wind isn't too strong I can open my umbrella half way and trust the base to support it. Of course, on very windy days the umbrella stays closed. When I want to move my table and base to another location, all I'll have to do it empty out the sand. Great item!
Free Standing Umbrella Stand

Good product at a good price. But beware! The cap to close off the hole where you pour the sand inside to provide weight cannot be taken off once it is screwed down. That information is printed on a tiny plastic bag and not easily noticed.
Free Standing Umbrella Base

It's well made and a great price.I water filled it and it kept on tipping over. Now I am trying it with gravel fill.Of course it's been very very windy in this part of California's Central Valley and also the location where I put it is also very drafty.

This is a functional umbrella stand. I had some trouble poring the sand in, till I figured out the the sand was moist and therefor not flowing in smoothly. Once I waited for the sand to dry it went fine. Now it is nice and heavy and should do the job just fine.
Looks good; umbrella still in place

Very nice umbrella; color is rich; it tilts, though tilt adjustment is up quite high ( I'm 5'4"). Having a big funnel helps with filling it with sand. Umbrella seems secure, but no huge winds yet. Great price and very nice quality.
typical inexpensive stand...

Typical umbrella stand. Difficult to fill with sand. But with patience, it gets done. Also design flaw - it should have multiple screws to balance the umbrella (like a tree stand) One screw makes it lean to one side which makes it seem unsturdy.
Great product and excellent value

All Pros no Cons. Simply the best base for the umbrellas I purchased. Weighing it down was a little work with the sand but other than that it worked pretty well

Easy to use - only drawback is it has to stay filled - can't emply to move it around but that's minor.
