An artisan story card will be included with your purchase. Two ornate sun diamonds on a handsome hand-loomed rug. By Alberto Ruiz Garc a, it manifests the excellence of fine Zapotec weavings. The bright colors come from natural dyes and the detail is amazing. Ruiz names the design ''Fiesta Zapoteca'' in Spanish. Because each rug is individually woven, measurements could vary +/- 5 cm (2 in). ; About the Artist: Alberto Ruiz; Alberto Ruiz Garcia is the fourth generation in a family dedicated to weaving Zapotec rugs. I remember as a child watching my father working on the loom while my mother and grandmother carded and dyed the wool so that the men could weave it. We shear the wool, spin it and dye it with tints from the cochineal insect, pomegranate peel, bark from the huajal tree that thrives here, as well as oak and pecan bark. Stones, dried flowers, almost all the rocks and flowers here yield natural colors.
