Although I rated this product as 4-stars, it's probably closer 5-stars; but, it's not perfect. This is a well-padded, lightweight, tenor trombone gig bag, with plenty of storage room. It has a main compartment for the trombone's bell section, a separate slide compartment, and an additional large outer storage compartment for other "stuff." I can carry a tenor trombone (either "straight" or with "F-attachment") with a portable trombone stand inserted in the bell. The outer storage compartment can hold a hefty (non-wire) portable, folding music stand and still has enough room for other accessories (mouthpiece, lubrication, etc.) When carrying a "straight" tenor, there's enough room in the main compartment to stow additional accessories in a small, well-padded bag that will prevent the bell section from getting "dinged." (ProTec does not include one with the gig bag, but I was able to "rig" one up, myself.)
One of the things I really like about this bag is that it's "backpackable" and easily attaches to the (optional) ProTec Deluxe Padded Backpack Strap (BPSTRAP) -- about $15-18). These straps are contoured, extremely well-padded, easy to adjust and include a sternum strap. They are as good as any you will find on high-end hiking and mountain-climbing backpacks. Thus, I can easily carry virtually everything I need for a rehearsal or gig on my back, leaving my hands free to carry my mute bag and music case, etc.
My only complaint(and it's relatively minor) is I wish the slide compartment provided a bit more protection. The outer wall has a flexible, plastic "stiffener" that will provide the slide adequate protection under most circumstances -- just don't slam a tuba or bass amp up against it! (I would have used a piece of 1/4" thick masonite or plywood -- which, unfortunately, would make the bag a bit heavier.) I'm probably being a bit overly-critical and have to remind myself that this is, after all, a "GIG BAG" and not a "CASE." As such, it's more protective than all but the most high-end, "boutique" gig bags, but costs far, far less. A great value; I highly recommend it!"..." Read more
