SKB Shaped Band Pro Tenor Sax Contoured Case

I ordered the SKB Contoured Tenor Sax case to replace an older, somewhat worn Cannonball case. I need road worthy case and have past positive experience with SKB (one of their cases protected my alto sax from a fall off a motorcycle) and decided to give their new model 450 tenor case a try. All around it's a solid road worthy case. The latches and handle have been upgraded and are sturdier and have a more "industrial strength" feel than those on the older model. The interior of the case offers space for the sax neck and another compartment that can hold my mouthpiece and a box of reeds. It also features an an accessory pocket on the outside of the lid. This is the least impressive feature of the case as the pocket separated from the case almost immediately after unpacking it. A bit of glue will put it right but it's a bit on the chincy side for a company like SKB. Overall it's a good solid sax case. The real test will come on a couple of upcoming cross country flights where it will have to endure life in the cargo hold and the delicate hands of the baggage handlers. My original wooden Getzen Trumpet case, was destroyed by thieves who broke into my house. I didn't want to pay the $277 to replace just the case. After looking at several different aftermarket trumpet cases, I finally found the Protec Max to be a perfect replacement case. The Protec trumpet case was large enough to hold a trumpet mute, two mouth pieces and had a large exterior zipper pouch to hold music or cleaning cloths. It also, had a small interior door to hold valve oil. Although I miss the original wooden Getzen trumpet case, I did remove the brass Getzen emblem and installed it on the Protec case which now looks like it came from Getzen! I purchased four of these Baritone Cases to replace the older heavy bulky hard case that came with the marching baritones years ago. The baritone fist much more safely and snugly in this case, no room to flop around. Zippers secure the case lid, and unlike the older latching cases there is no worry about this case randomly opening up. Mouthpiece fits in outside zipper compartment so no more threat of random dents to the instrument from a loose mouthpiece. Velcro flap holds handles together for easy lifting, and shoulder strap is a winner. I recommend all of the ProTec marching brass cases, as I have already replaced Trumpet, Flugel, and Mellophone cases with ProTec and I am 100 satisfied."..."  Read more

My 10 yr old granddaughter started in band this year and she is using my old alto. The original alto case died years ago and I had been using an old C-melody sax case that I had. It too was on its last legs. After looking around for a replacement I found the Pro Tec at a local music store and really liked the quality construction of the case but what I liked even better was finding it at Wayfair at a cost that was 50 less than the music store.
