"Hello Matilde, it is an actual aquarium that can hold fish. This coffee table is made for fresh water fish. It comes with the fresh water filtration system. This can be used for salt water fish but the customer would have to replace the filtration system since its only for fresh water fish. The table top goes over the aquarium. It sprung a leak in one of the filters though and water spewed all over the floor so it probably needs to be constructed a little bit better so if the filter does clog it doesnt go all over the floor.
