Rusty RIP 9/11/10 Best Dog Ever from DFW– Verified Buyer– Top 500 Reviewer

These are the standard for exercise pens. Work great for tons of different uses. To corrall dogs or to exclude them from areas. As barriers, fence reinforcement, or to define a potty area. Can be used indoors.

We use them mostly to give grass a chance to recover from the dogs and move them around periodically.

If your dog is not a jumper one as tall as your dogs head is enough. If they are a jumper, you better see how high your dog can jump. If using indoors dogs generally have less motivation to jump than outdoors (no squirrels, strange dogs, mailmen, etc.).

Do not leave small dogs or pups unattended in a yard. Hawks and other predators can take them. You should put in a covered area like a porch or put a pen cover on it. If you have ground predators, then you can get a wire cover. That may not stop them just slow them down. So only do that if you are home where you can come out at first noise.

An octagon shape gives you the most square footage. Then a square. A rectangle has about 25% less square footage than a square. You can do all those shapes plus irregular ones. You can fold panels back on themselves for smaller enclosures or combine 2 or more pens for larger enclosures.

They easily attach to wire dog crates as well.

Precision makes some good models that may be a bit better but are pricier.

Midwest also makes a gold-zinc one that is more durable finish for outdoors. However Midwest's black finish holds up very well.

You don't necessarily need a door as you can unsnap where the end panels are joined together. If you are going to use a cover, you want a door. If the dogs are escape artists, you do not want a door.

Ideal for our kennel operation

Albert from Somerset, KY– Verified Buyer

We have found this item to be just what the DR ordered. We have a dog kennel and have the need to separate pets and to contain them... safely and securely.
I connect them to a crate often, but for convenience and simplicity... there is nothing like these. You can set them up or tear them down in 5 - 10 seconds... anywhere! (indoors or outdoors). They are ideal to display or show dogs and puppies to prospects. I place a puppy pad under the bottom edge to hold it down and to keep it in place, and fasten food and water bowls on the wire mesh, throw a few toys in and it's ready for puppies. Because we prefer small dogs (3 - 10 lbs), we prefer the 24 or 30 inch heights. A door is not even necessary, just reach in or step over to gain access. Configure them to many shapes just by flexing the hinged panel sections... or connect them together to configure any size. Did I mention that they are extremely versatile and fairly inexpensive... for a solution to our needs. They used to ship for free and receipt is almost always 2 days, although I have received them within 15 hours of ordering online!!! (Now a minimum order is required for free shipping).

Works well for keeping a dog out of harms way for the short term.

Daniel from Jemison– Verified Buyer

I got this to help contain an adopted stray puppy of unknown breed as he grew. I got a larger/taller size to help keep him from jumping out and hopefully accommodate the unknown tallness of him as an adult, which worked wonderfully. However as he grew the inner dimensions of the pen became a little cramped for running and really playing, and it became more of place to put him up when we needed to keep him up or away from something. For larger dogs the lay out won't really give them room to "exercise", as the pens don't get larger in over-all layout size, just taller as you go up the sizing. However it works well for a temporary solution to keep even my 50lb dog up, with more room and places for food/water/bedding/toys than his crate provides.

It is a super easy set up and take down, has a durable coat to keep from rusting, and is a good quality for the price. It does keep our dog secure and in place; however he isn't very interested in escaping while being kept up, so I cannot attest to how it does with dogs that don't want to stay put.

Pros: Keeps my dogs safe, works well, gotten for an ok price
Cons: Not really enough room for larger dogs to "exersize"

Very good product!

Happy Grandma from Shorewood, WI– Verified Buyer

Somehow, I was completely unaware of the existence of these exercise pens until this past Summer. Even when I saw them, I thought that they might be too light-weight to be of use. I couldn't have been more wrong! I bought the pen with a door last Summer to use for house-training our new puppy. The octagon above would have been too big for the space we had to put it in so I pried the hinges apart and made it smaller (6 pieces formed a rectangle-with the door between the 2 squares).

It worked great--so well in fact, that I bought a 2nd pen that I move around as needed to keep my inquisitive and rambunctious dog out of areas that aren't safe for her. Set up in a zig-zag, these are really pretty strong and stretch pretty far. They come with long U-shaped anchors for more security outside, but I've never used them.

Buddy's play pen

Suellen from Mocksville, NC– Verified Buyer

The play pen is working so good for our dachshund and so thankful we found one. He loves it outside
and we don't have to worry about him now.

Sylvester017 from Los Angeles County

We got the 36 tall pen and configured it indoors into a 4' x 4' square and put it on a big roll of plastic then covered the plastic floor with newspaper. Using as a brooder pen for 2 juvenile chicks. I wouldn't recommend this for a dog as it can easily be knocked out of configuration or easily dragged around the room by anything weighing more than 10 lbs. We clipped bird netting over the top to keep chicks from flying out - a tarp cover was tried but it pulled the panels unevenly out of the square configuration. Outside frame for the door assembly was slightly bent on arrival (box was not bent). The 8 panels themselves are metal and somewhat strong. The door is an absolute necessity for us and is easy to openclose. However, the panels is where the quality ends. Everything connecting the panels is not stable and wobbles. Flimsy plastic stabilizers don't fit either. We didn't force them to fit as the instructions showed or they would break plus our fingers started cramping. We substituted black office supply clips and potato chip bag clips which worked just as flimsy but easier to clip onoff. The items they call snaps to hook the open ends of the panels together are nothing more than plastic key chain clips (what). The 4 snap-hook key chains looked sillier sticking out than the 4 black office supply clips we improvised for stabilizers! This pen doesn't hold our puppy as he always wants to push on the pen walls when he sees us. Perhaps anchoring outside to the ground would be sturdier but it's not useful indoors for pets over 10-lbs. Good thing we're only using it for a couple of 2-lb chicks. If used indoors, we recommend extra engineering to get it to work as advertised. At least the individual 8 metal panels are sturdy which is why it got 2 stars instead of 1 -- it's just all the connectors and stabilizers that are extremely flimsy and don't keep the 8 individual panels configured in the shape we chose.

Good quality

Blake from Sugar Land, TX– Verified Buyer

This exercise pen is sturdy and easy to put up; it also creates a good size space when put into a circle. I bought this pen to use inside and learned that it could quickly be manipulated by my 10 pound puppy at no fault to the crate. If there is nothing to tie down the pen (for example using it outside with stakes...which it does come with) then of course the pen will move as the dog pushes it. My only suggestion to buyers would be to really think about the height you need. I ordered the 24 in H thinking no way my puppy could climb it, FALSE, and she climbs it with ease. However not at dogs are the same.

Great dog pen with door

heidi from waban, MA– Verified Buyer

We bought this to use in our family room as a contained area for our new puppy. We don't want to leave him in the crate for too long as he is very young. This way he can get some exercise without doing any damage to our home. I covered the floor with a tarp first and then put this up. When he is a little older I will put this outside for him. You can also combine two sets of these to make a larger pen. Its nice to have the swinging door for easy access as well.

Well made and simple to set up

Excellent for outdoors.

Janna from Timmins, ON– Verified Buyer

Getting this unit initially for indoor use as a puppy pen came to a halt the first time I tried to put my 8 week old Great Dane puppy in it. It isn't sturdy enough and even with the lock pieces in place, she drug the bottom panels all over the floor. LOL So in fear of her pushing it to an area where she could chew something I resorted to an old kennel I have for now, until she is used to being kennel trained. Then with this she would have more room to lay and play being safe {not getting into mischief haha}. Right now I will be using this outdoors for instead of tying her up at camp {camp rules :( } she can be safely contained in this along with my Doberman as well. :)

Great Quality, Great Price!

Anthony from Hudson, MA– Verified Buyer

Bought this for my 5 lb. Holland Lop Rabbit and so far everything is working out well with him in it. Built very well and perfect for a rabbit his size. I got the tallest one you could get since he is a jumper. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a pen for their rabbit or small animal and wants to give them more a free, and exercise filled day. Side note: No carrying case, which would be nice for how big and heavy it is, however the weight isn't too bad, and comes with clips and accessories to keep the pen stable. Overall a bit more then I would like to spend, but still the cheapest option I saw for the height, size, etc. Buy this!
