We love our Critter Nation Small Animal Double Unit Cage! We got it for our two Syrian Hamsters, who apparently really enjoy their much larger households...We put their old smaller plastic cages inside the Critter Nation, on a top shelf; that's where they have their little "nest" and their food. We padded the Critter Nation shelves well, so hamsters can climb up the metal grids to their hearts' content and we don't worry if they fall. They climb the ramps between shelves super fast, too. I assembled the whole cage in one evening, by myself, in about 2 hours. It required a rubber hammer to adjust & align some of the parts, and it also required patience -- sometimes I'd align parts to connect them and they'd misalign just as I was trying to lock them in place. I think this is totally expected due to the length of the parts, but the end product is sturdy, easy to roll around and to clean. The product matches the website description -- I was apprehensive since I have not seen this specific cage in pet stores. It is pricier that others I looked at but definitely worth it! I'd recommend the Critter Nation cage to anyone who values their little creature friends.

Our bunny needed more space. Yeah, they say bunnies don't like anything but one level. Not true. Took her a week to figure out how to maneuver upstairs, but now she's a two-level gal. Of course she's chewed up the ladder covers, but I don't really think she needs them. Haven't seen any chewing of the trays yet, they are quite thick and hard, and she has enough other stuff to chew, so she hasn't tried. The trays are too short wall-wise for a bunny, so if her litter box is full, she'll pick a corner, and obviously it went out of the cage and onto the wall and made a mess. Quick fix was buying the cement mixing trays at the local hardware store (google it) that has very high sides, cut one side off the top lip and it fits right in (I've only done the bottom tray so far, still have to figure how to cut a square in it for the top level). The only thing that could be better is the litter/splash guards for the walls that you have to buy separately should come included instead of a separate purchase, but they were not high enough for a bunny so I didn't buy them, and just went the cement mixing tray route. Very happy with this cage.
Incredible qualtiy & craftsmanship

Hey all! Just received my fluffy child's new home and it is beautiful! I just wanted to quickly mention to anyone wondering, Midwest stated they had concerns over the wire ramps & how it could injure our small animals without covering them & have included 3 fleece ramp covers in the package. I wasn't certain it was going to be included with ordering through Wayfair here, but I took the plunge hoping it would be included from the manufacturer which it indeed was! I was very pleased to see this as I want to use the ramps but was afraid my chinchilla would sustain injuries from use over time (foot pads get sensitive! ). Hope this helps anyone else with these same concerns. Again, this is an excellent cage. I'm updating from a cheap ferret cage I bought used several years ago & finally able to afford this beauty.
Very Good Cage Overall

This is probably one of the best cages on the market. It is sturdy, roomy, and easy to clean. Some major issues I have with this cage is that it weighs almost 100 lbs. and not easy for a small female to assemble. I would definitely enlist some help if you do not have brute strength. The box says no tools required for assembly, however, I did need to have a rubber mallet to put the cage together which took me several hours. Definitely a weekend project. The plastic pans that come with the cage got chewed up pretty badly by my girls in just a few days and I had to order the metal pans from Bass. Other than that, this cage is worth the time and investment as my rats have more room to play and sleep in. :)
Great Cage For Chinchillas
Kelly from Levittown, PA – Verified Buyer
The Critter Nation has been a home for my chinchillas for the last few months. Tons of room and easy to customize. Lots of places to hang toys, hammocks and wood shelves. Wasn't as easy to assemble as I thought. There are black "stoppers" in the square corners as your putting it together that serve no purpose. You can either pop them out or get a mallet and screwdriver and pop holes in them, which is what I did. Went together just fine after making that adjustment. The cage is moved around a couple times a week to clean under and around it and it's held together nice. I also love that the doors are huge which makes it a breeze to clean. Would definitely recommend.
Great Rat Home

I got this for my girls. I have a total of 9 ratties. I love it and so do they. It comes with ramp covers and a complete guide for assembly. It has 2 levels with 2 sets of double doors that open completely. Its very easy to clean, the plastic liners come right out. I would recommend for deep cleaning days a guitar pick or something of the sort to get in the nook and crannies because the odor will collect. You also have the option to get replacement ramp covers and plastics liners plus you can add levels to this cage if you want more space!! I was recommended this cage by other rat owners and its done great! I highly recommend this cage for anyone who has 5+ rats, ferrets or chinchillas.
Perfect for Chinchilla

Looked at lots of cages and this was the best value. I considered getting a ferret nation cage at a local store but determined that the critter nation cage was better suited for a chinch. The levels have plastic shelves instead of grates so their toes don't get stuck or sore, The bars are closer together so they can't get caught in the bars. It was easy to put together with a rubber mallet. I don't find it unstable as some have said. I wonder if they have it put together right. We have moved the cage in one piece from the basement to the upstairs and it made it without coming apart. You definitely need wheels. We move it around for cleaning all the time. The levels are a breeze to clean, she LOVES running up and down the ramps and jumping between levels, and it's nice to have two levels of fully opening doors. They cost more than a small starter cage but it is an investment in the health of your chinch. Anything smaller is like living in a closet all your life. They live a long time. The reason I didn't give a five was the right side doors on the top and bottom don't close properly. I have to call the manufacturer about it I just haven't had time yet. The other reason is the chinch makes a mess. The plastic trays on each layer need to have taller sides on them. We see you can buy sides seperately but it would be better if the plastic trays had taller sides to begin with.

Perfect cage for my chinchillas. It's HUGE. Like you will be surprised at how big it is. The only thing that I didn't like were the pans. They weren't deep at all. I ordered the ones that fit these cages from bass equipment. They work perfectly. I use the liners from the cage as a liner for the shelf at the bottom and on top of the cage for more storage space. It was quite easy to put together too. Took me alittle over one hour to put together by myself. I would recommend to anyone but I would def buy other liners. The ones from bass equipment perfectly.

So, I highly recomend this cage for anyone with smaller critters! It's perfect for rats, chins, suger gliders, you could even put two ferrits in there with room to spare! I however, bought this cage for my three rats! They love it! Although rats will be rats and chew, they can't get out know tho! Lol, the cage ships quit heavy though, so id expect borken parts. I had to wait a few days for my replacement part to put the cage togeather. That, and having to hammer the cage togeather where the only draw backs. It is a all and all epic cage and it looks clean and profesenel. Also, someone asked if this cage was suitable for guinea pigs.. It is not. Guinea pigs like flat level cages, not multi level cages, garnet the cage is huge, it's not suitable for a guinea pigs needs... I have 4 guinea pigs.. So I should know.

We ordered this unit for our prairie dog pups (who will be a bit over 2 pounds each when full grown). I have decorated it with lots of homemade rat beds, ropes, etc. etc. and our boys LOVE this. I would recommend this unit for a family of up to FOUR prairie dogs - not sure about other types of animals. As a quick note - sometimes people mistakenly get the ferret nation instead of this. we bought this because of the way the bars are spaced closer together - with the ferret nation, I think they run a different direction and are further apart - meaning an animal can chip their teeth, etc. trying to chew on the bars. I would give this a five star review - BUT - some of the product came a bit damaged in the box...the shelves are a bit...crooked We can make them work - but they aren't in perfect condition. Still, yet, for the price we paid - we're thrilled and would order this cage again in the future if we were adding more critters to our home.
