We use the grinder for processing raw food for our 6 dogs. We were looking for a big inlet tube so we had to do as little cutting as possible to get the pieces in the head. Power and price were also considerations. I did quite a bit of research and decided on this unit. We couldn't be happier with the decision. We grind bone in poultry pieces only, whole chickens, legs and backs and turkey necks. The grinder makes short work of these and we can feed pieces super fast. The unit is heavy and the handle on top is helpful for hoisting the unit to the counter. We find the grinder is easy to assemble and disassemble for cleaning. We were looking for a meat slicer that would thinly slice meat and cheese. We did not want to spend a lot of money, so this fit the bill quite well. It is very easy to use, and it will slice your meat deli thin if you want. We found that it sliced beef brisket and ham in uniform slices with very little effort on my part. My only complaint really is that it is difficult to clean. You have to be very careful when taking the blade off, and there is no way to sanitize it. I would not recommend it at all for raw meat. I used the Simply Better 45 Blade Meat Tenderizer by Jaccard once so far and love it! In fact, I cannot imagine cooking meat in the future without using it. I used it on 3 New York Strip Steaks which can be chewy. The steaks were still a bit frozen so after tenderizing one side, I flipped them over and tenderized the other side. I am a senior citizen with wrist tendon problems as well as arthritis, yet I was able to use the Simply Better 45 Blade Meat Tenderizer by Jaccard easily. I marinated the 3 strip steaks in teriyaki sauce overnight and cooked them the next day. As I began to cut half of one up for my dog (our baby) I could tell immediately that it was extremely tender. Eating the steaks was so pleasurable because of the tenderness. A huge improvement!!! I love that it can be washed in the upper shelf of the dishwasher with the cartridge still intact But because I can't see the blades, I ran it through the dishwasher twice to be sure it got cleaned extremely well. At first blush this meat pounder seemed like overkill, but it was a great choice. We are all familiar with the variety of meat pounders, some of which if not used correctly will damage the meat, and some that are so light that a rolling pin or a small jar if pickles are a better alternative. With this pounder it takes about 3 thumps and a chicken breast or steak is evenly and perfectly flattened to your desired thickness and tenderized.
