Good directions, easy to put together for me, 99% by myself. This is gym quality, gym in a gym. All the features you will ever need. No need for a gym membership. Why waste time driving to a gym and have to wait to use something someone else just sweat all over. Especially with Ebola and other germs and diseases out there. For a family membership at the gym this pays for itself in a year and half. I am including cost of olympic weights. Want to workout alone with heavy weights. Use the smith machine and set the bar stop and no spotter needed. I get to workout with the family in the safety of my own home. Drawbacks: Takes a lot of space but well worth it. Takes 6 to 8 hours to put it together, again well worth it. Two sets of washers were marked what the other was, easy to figure out since they were in the same package. Missing 4 of the larger washers cost me $1 at local Ace Hardware store. Suggest to put down floor padding as I did. Floor padding cost me $60 from Walmart as they had the lowest price. You have to purchase an olympic weight set for this. I got the Weider 300 lbs olympic weight set with an extra bar for $199 at Sears as they had the lowest price. I will add that the leg developer would have to be manual unscrewed to remove it from the bench. I spent another $5 at Ace Hardware and purchased a 3/8" steel sleeve and pin that fit into the leg developer and made it a quick easy off so that I could free up room and make the bench less weight. I am always moving the bench because I use all facets of this machine and workout hardcore. I will also be purchasing some dumbbells from Sears, the Weider PowerSwitch 100 lb. Weight Set for $249 since they are the cheapest. I shouldn't need anything ever again. If you have the space then save time, gas, money and chance of contracting something from the gym and get this piece of equipment. Brings the family closer together and instills a healthy exercise routine for your children.
Excellent Quality Machine

I am extremely happy with this machine. The movements are very smooth and the construction and craftsmanship is excellent. Zero complaints. I still have an older model Marcy bench that has been used heavily for 10+ years with no problems and I believe Marcy products are designed well and made to last. The directions and illustrations are very adequate. The cables were a little confusing when assembling, but if you follow the directional arrows that are illustrated and do one pulley at a time it makes it much easier. Also, the hardware comes packaged in a flat plastic sheet that is labelled and I found that keeping the pieces in the packaging worked well-. I cut slits in each section to remove the individual pieces as needed as I went.
so far so good

I've only had it together for a week but have hit every body part and it seems like it will hold up. I have been training pretty heavy since 2002 and consider myself pretty tough on fitness equipment and this set up seems to be up to the task. I have always trained at a gym in the past but in order to save money on memberships and gas, not have to deal with people and shorten the total time I started researching possible quality home gyms...so far i think my search was successful...very smooth on the cable work and smith machine. Seems like the more weight you add the smoother it gets. I have a degree in fitness and wellness so one of my main concers is correct physiological movement for safety and optimum effectiveness and I feel both were taken into consideration when designing this. . I would say that i have 4 complaints...1. there are no wheels on the bench so taking it out of the way to do squats and such is more difficult than it would be with wheels and a handle(will be getting a seperate bench and leaving the bench that came with this machine out to the side); 2. the pads for the leg extensions and leg curls are very short so your feet have to be too close together(need to be at least 2 inches longer on each side so will be getting a longer bar that fits for the wider pads); 3. the handles on the bicep curls do not rotate so the grip rotates on the bar and twists off the ends of the bar...have to push them back on after each set(super glue); 4. not enough room for a spotter to get in behind you when doing things like bench press and similar movements on the smith machine which is important. With all this said, as a whole i would reccomend to others...just take your time putting the thing together and have a friend to help in order to do it right. They say up to 8 hrs for assembly...it's no lie, should say "at least" 8 hrs. My reccomendation to the manufacturer is have experienced trainers or long time gym rats use it for a couple weeks in order to find the small issues that make a big difference. Hope this helps someone make an informed decision. Train hard, train smart and God Bless!
best bang for your buck!

as many others state, instructions are partially incomplete, have to figure some things out. the hardest part in the confusing mess of the cables that the instructions are incomplete. that being said, i still highly recommend this. i have older stuff at home and it is so nice with this as all exercises are so smooth and less stressful on my joints (i'm 53 and have been lifting for over 10 years so not a rookie who has no clue about gym equipment). took about 7 or 8 hours to assemble. not listed in description, unit comes in 3 boxes, the heaviest is 221 pounds so need help to unload from the truck. solid and well designed. this is good for new lifters and serious lifters. i had 2 small parts missing, a minor issue.

I researched a bunch of different gyms for a few months and finally decided on the Marcy linear. This machine is better than expected. I got to try one out at a local sears and knew it was the one for me. Build time takes about 6 hours. Pretty easy build. Pullys and cables take some time. If you do everything right, it's a very smooth machine. The one at Sears had a few flaws. I highly recommend this gym.
Great Machine but...
Carl from Montgomery Il
Everything I read about this machine was true. It's the best out there for the price. The bench is a little too big to do a seated shoulder press using the smith bar, you cant get the seat back far enough to get under the bar. I had to turn the seat around, take the leg attachment off and then I was able to do the press. The instructions are a nightmare, I thought everyone was complaining but there is a lot of truth in what they say. You have to read them several times and look at the drawings to get a mental picture of what you have to do, especially the cables. I'm 6' tall and could not use the leg extension attachment, my feet kept hitting the ground, poor design. I was also missing a LOT of bolts and washers.[...]
Impressive for the price

Once I put this together it looks great and has alot of exercise options. Takes about 8 hours to put together - the instructions were great - amazingly precise but I recommend you go buy a 16mm ratchet wrench - if you try and put this together with a regular wrench you will go crazy. The wrench only cost $10. On the downside - the liner bearings are noisier than the ones in the gym - I am going to try silicon grease to see if that reduces the noise. And it is very very large - almost fills my second bedroom.

Machine seems very sturdy. Smith machine seems to stick a little, but only when there are no weight on it. My machine did come with a bent piece, but that probably happened during shipping. The piece does not impact the use of the machine, so it's not a big deal to me. Overall, I'm satisfied with my purchase, and would probably consider Marcy products in the future.
Good quality for the money
Kelly from Higganum, CT – Verified Buyer
Assembly wasn't horrible - my husband did it by himself in about 8 hours altogether. The quality seems to be really good for the money. The slide rails with the bar seem to be a little tight and my husband said they might need to be greased, but otherwise everything seems to work properly. Hopefully it stands up overtime!

Assembly instructions are some of the worst I've every come across but figured it out none the less. The machine is exactly what I was looking for. Can get a whole body workout with one machine. Pulleys were a little stiff at first what once I lubed up everything it worked great. Wife loves it too. Overall very satisfied with purchase. Would recommend.
