Manchester Wood has a family tradition that dates back to 1891. It began when the great grandfather of founder Clifford Pierce ran a sawmill in Red Bank, New Jersey. Cliff started this wood business on October 19, 1976 in Manchester, Vermont. It was there that Manchester Wood Inc. was born. The company worked strictly with eastern white pine and produced small products for the gift industry. Over the years the company expanded its line and switched to hardwoods such as red oak and ash. It also began manufacturing larger items to market through mail order catalogs, online catalogs and furniture stores. The company grew out of its original site in the 1980's, and relocated to a 23 acre parcel in Granville, New York in 1990, where it continues to operate today.
