Rowe Carmel is HUGE and absolutely DECADENTLY LUXURIOUS living room furniture- I've had mine for 12 years- daily use w/ children, & it's (still!) just fabulous! Caution- Carmel is really oversized- we moved into smaller home & it's crammed in. Rowe's Nantucket style is very similar, & maybe 10-15% smaller, so, in hindsight, I would DEFINITELY recommend consider the Nantucket collection, as a better fit option- Unless you have a palatial home where you enjoy cavernous, empty rooms w/ TONS of square footage. Other aspects to consider before purchase: Depending upon your family size/intended use of this furniture, consider buying Couch/Chair/Chair, or just Couch/Chair, instead of the now outmoded standard of Couch/Loveseat/Chair. Make sure you do get 1 ottoman per each chair you buy- They combine to form a chaise but with the benefit that they can be separated for ease of getting into/out of chair, (these are very "sink-in" chairs), &/or for use as extra seating when you have company. Be aware that the "Carmel" chair measures an astounding 54" wide (back measurement)- compared to a standard loveseat which may be 65"... Therefore, although it's not technically a chair-and-a-half, it's nearly one. Adult & child will fit side by side in chair, or 2 small adults. By the way, this is not "formal furniture"- it's LIVING furniture... Wa-a-a-y-y too comfy to resist snuggling into. I occasionally nap on the chair w/ ottoman- It's ~twin bed size! When I bought my Rowe set, it was my 1st major purchase once I completed graduate school & got my 1st "real" professional job... I just had no idea what incredible quality furniture I was buying! In other words, I lacked the foresight to realize that the furniture would last SO long, that my choice in color/slipcover might change, so I (foolishly!) declined the 1-time offer to purchase an extra set of slipcovers (discounted), at time of purchase. Although the slipcovers have held up perfectly to twice/annually tear down, laundering, & re-placement onto the base furniture (24 washes thus far!), unfortunately my cats have shredded the arms of the slipcovers- So, now I DO wish that I'd purchased the extra slipcovers- What seemed like a huge expense then, I'd gladly go back in time if I could, & BUY them! Another optional feature that was offered to me, but I declined, & now wish I hadn't- Down/feather filled cushions. If I'd known we were going to LOVE it this much, and it was going to last this long (still in great shape!), I'd have spent on the upgrades. Also, since this furniture will likely be with you a long time, maybe your entire lifetime, consider selecting NEUTRAL slipcovers- That way, you can completely remodel your decor by changing the paint, hardwood or quarry tiling floors, wool / oriental /contemporary area rug, throw pillows, curtains, etc- VERSUS all your decor, for decades or lifelong, being slave to match your slipcovers... Especially something as simple as throw pillows, which you can buy on sale for $10/each, (you'd need maybe 4-8 pillows total) can really completely transform your room! So, I am recommending wholeheartedly, select a neutral slipcover which washes well (contains polyester)- but not too light color (will show stains). Really truly, AVOID prints like the plague, unless you are thinking of a VERY subtle fabric texturing only. And, by the way- An overview of slipcovered furniture: After 12 or 20 years of furniture ownership, or even just 1 year, with 2 cats, a child, and snacking in the living room, I cannot imagine not being able to routinely remove the covers & wash/sterilize them (which I do w/ colorsafe bleach). So, I would never consider purchasing anything but slipcovered furniture to begin with- regardless of brand! These are the lessons I've learned the hard way :) Snobs refer to Rowe as mid-range furniture. I think that "Rowe" is higher-end furniture, at affordable moderate-mid-range costs- I certainly will not spend $40K-$100K & up, on living room furniture, when the quality & comfort of Rowe is available at a fraction of the price! If you are sweating the cost, forget about it and indulge- You will not regret it!
This furniture has been jumped on (a lot), slept on (a lot), climbed on, arms sat on, had professional magicians performed while seated, magically pulling bunnies out of hats & creating flash fires from their wands, (child's birthday party), as well as a professional Mermaid guest at a little girls' birthday party, with a dozen children all cramming on/around her on the sofa- seats crammed over-full w/ people, and it just lasts & lasts w/ exquisite comfort! Of course it isn't indestructable, but it seems if we haven't broken it, I don't know what would! I cannot ever imagine living without it- SO comfy & attractive- I still receive compliments from guests every time they visit on this classic yet contemporary furniture. Actually it's a steal, even at today's prices- Although, do be aware, that the company underwent bankruptcy (? I think during '06) and so I have no idea if the quality of the furniture remains as superb. If and when, in my lifetime, this furniture is replaced, I will not hesitate to buy ROWE furniture again- Except that I would look at smaller styles, b/c the "Carmel" only fits in very very large rooms! Apparently it's also marketed under "Storehouse Furniture" as the "Brittany". Thanks for reading, happy investing! Best luck :)"..." Read more
