The clamp will not move if it is gripping a thick headboard (1 1/4" min). If you adjust the lamp head while attached to anything less than this it will move back and forth. If you only have one hand to do this you may be a little annoyed. The lamp itself seems to be of decent quality except for the poor grasping ability. You may try to increase the thickness of the desk or headboard just where the clamp is to hold it on better. Use a thick piece of tape on the edge to keep from marring the wood. Some may be bothered by the open area of the shade. Halogen bulbs are extremely bright and I find myself adjusting the position of the head to avoid temporary blindness. I usually get it so it doesn't bother me so much. The lamp's gooseneck will stay in position if it is clamped in an upward configuration (as it is pictured in their description) instead of a downward one. This will greatly affect the lamp's range. I would only recommend this lamp if its limitations are understood. It does light up when you click the switch. That is the principal reason I didn't return it.

Couldn't be better. What a great company.

This light needs more of a shade. If you have it bent too low, it glares out of the sides. It also gets very hot.

*Has low light, I needed more. *Clamp fell apart but was easy to fix. I suspect it will happen again.

three of these strong lamps are used to illuminate my handmade jewelry displays on shelves or tables. work very well for this purpose: portable, long cords, bright spots to make the bling shine! watch out for the heat produced, good thing there's a 'handle.'

My wife likes to read in bed. We have found that cheap lights do not last. This light has good clamping pressure and stays where you put it.
