Very good unit with a reasonable price Product Review After weeks of looking for an entertainment center, we finally decided to go with the Lansford Park Berkshire expandable unit. The end factors, above-average quality and cost. We saw this in a local furniture store (oddly, under a completely different name). We didn't "fall in love" with it, but we liked it compared to other units in the store. Also, the "good" ones we saw at other locations were in the $4000 to $8000 range. The color is closer to a brown that a cherry (not a tinge of red). The "distressed" part isn't a big deal really. I would prefer it without it, but I feel it doesn't really add anything aesthetically. It came in 6 boxes. The pier bottoms and tops come 95% assembled. The entertainment stand was 90% assembled. Basically, you just have a base and you put the assembled drawers on top, put the backing on, and then put the top on. The expandable capability really is pretty ingenious. It doesn't look expandable, but more like it was designed specifically for your TV. I would say it took us 3 hours to put everything together (2 people) and that was taking our time. It comes with directions in each box. The only fault of the unit itself was that the brackets for the bridge above the tv aren't really the right size. It's a little short. Meaning, when you drill the holes to secure the bracket, it's a little too close to the edge. I think it's safe enough even without the screws, but with a flat-panel TV right below it, I wouldn't want to take a chance (I installed a different bracket.). I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a decent-priced entertainment wall unit. Service Review Service was good, but I used it too much. Let me explain...... Even though the unit said it was in stock, it wasn't. I had to wait an additional 2 weeks. Next, when they transported the unit to the hub in my area, they didn't have my phone number. In other words, it was at the hub for a few days before I finally called them to see where it was (this time, it was Reddaway). It was delivered at the exact time they said it would be. However, 2 of the boxes were damaged. Getting replacements was easy, but having to wait another 2 weeks for the replacement parts was annoying. Basically, I had these things sitting in my garage because I couldn't put any of it together. I got the replacements and yet again, they were damaged. One of them was really bad, the other was minimal. With the one that had little damage, I decided to just keep it and see if I could just get a discount. They were very willing to do that to make it easier on everyone. I will have to admit, Racks and Stands has probably the BEST customer service I have ever dealt with. Very friendly and accommodating. The other piece, they are sending replacement shelves instead of the whole pier. Another down side is that if the manufacturer doesn't call you within 3 weeks, you can throw away the damaged units. Sounds easy enough, but what trash company picks up whole shelves these days? I know mine doesn't, so that means I'll either have to wait for my trash company's special pick up days or drag it down to the dump. |
