I purchased a dozen of these because I NEVER want to be without them! If you use them for what "I" use them for, 12 should easily last you a lifetime............heck, with 12 you can even give a few away to others to try. I use them in my BATHROOM..........YES! Necessity is the mother of invention, so here's my story: I got tired of buying those regular rubber bathmats because they always molded around the suction cups and left marks on the bathtub, and I didn't want to be bothered having to rinse that big bathmat and hanging to dry all of the time if I didn't want to leave it in the tub. One day I was in a store and saw this same" type" of placemat but only in an oval orange shape so I bought one just to try it in the tub and have been hooked ever since; that placemat was jute covered in rubber (or silicone or whatever this rubbery stuff is)........so I assume these shell placemats are made the same way. I have a towel ring on my bathtub surround wall and when I'm done taking a shower standing on one of these placemats, I just give it a quick rinse and hang it on that towel ring. No marks on the tub because you don't leave it in the tub. Over time my orange one did wear with tiny rubbery pieces coming off here and there and the jute starting to show, but it took many years for that to happen; I assume that will probably happen with these shell placemats as well.......mine are fairly new, so still on my first one after a few years and have not seen any disintegration yet. When it starts to get dirty looking, just soak it in the sink with some bleach in water and it comes up clean. It is soft on the feet, you will not slip, big enough for one person to stand on, and I love the pretty shell design. If you want to use them as placemats, they are great because they are nonskid, but as it says, it is "fishnet" which means there are small holes throughout the mat so any liquids would pour through them. I really cannot say ANYTHING bad about these..........LOVE THEM!
