The bottom of the storage benches is made of very thin particle board, not wood. It took my husband and myself about 2 hours to put the whole set together.
I will say that the manufacturer was very easy to deal with. The top trim rail on the longer bench had been damaged and puttiedstained prior to the table being shipped to us. I called the (800) number and they replaced the part, no questions asked. I received it in less than one week.
