I just had a new kitchen remodel and chose a cart on wheels instead of a stationary island. This cart turned out be the highlight in the kitchen and is very versatile. It's sturdy, roomy enough for two people to sit at the breakfast bar. The mobility of the cart allows it to be moved about the kitchen area especially for large parties. However, I was disappointed that the stainless steel top doesn't serve as a cutting top and is easily scratched (although great for other prep work); and, that the spice rack/towel bar and paper towel holder isn't interchangable to be assembled either the left or right. My husband is a contractor and didn't have as much trouble assembling as mentioned by some comments. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product for quality, beauty and usefulness."..." While a picture may be worth a thousand words, shopping the internet can be tricky, what you see is not always what you get. In the case of our John Boos Cucina Americana butcherblock island, what we "saw" was delightfully so much less than what we got - which is not only a functional island, but a beautful piece of kitchen furniture! The craftsmenship of the piece was evident right out of the box, and once we had it put together (which, by the way, is very easy) we were stunned by the attention to detail, the quality of the wood,[...] The metal work and the wheel mechanics are also outstanding. The block itself is constructed from one contiguous piece, so whether the leaves are down or up, there is no break in the grain of the wood. Of course I have used the wood top to work on, but, I must admit the island inspires me with such respect, when involved in extremely wet work, or working hard items requiring more force than usual, I have been known to use a small cutting board to protect it. Like everyone else, we work very hard for our money, and it was so very welcome to receive a product where it is obvious the craftsman at Boos work hard at what they do - take pride in what they do - as well. Oh, and by the way, when the kitchen is all picked up for the day (or night) the island looks wonderful with a Biscotti jar and a simple spray of fresh flowers! Trust me, you are gonna love it!"..." This was a perfect choice for us. We had a bistro table with chairs in our kitchen, which was rarely used for dining, just collected stuff. Moved that to Island for additional storage, but especially for the top work area. Love the drop leaf, bought a single bar stool, so I now have great space for chopping and preparing meals comfortably. By the way, we are now eating at the seldom used table we moved. The Island was fairly easy to assemble, and just the perfect size for our kitchen. This kitchen cart is lovely and fills a spot below our pass-through between kitchen and dining room very well. It is truly the color shown in the picture and a nice addition, especially for the price. We've had it for 2 months and the drawer is still difficult to use. Everytime one opens the drawer the whole cart moves too. And the cabinet doors don't quite fit together, though it IS possible to close the open and close the doors with a bit of effort.
