While a picture may be worth a thousand words, shopping the internet can be tricky, what you see is not always what you get. In the case of our John Boos Cucina Americana butcherblock island, what we "saw" was delightfully so much less than what we got - which is not only a functional island, but a beautful piece of kitchen furniture! The craftsmenship of the piece was evident right out of the box, and once we had it put together (which, by the way, is very easy) we were stunned by the attention to detail, the quality of the wood,[...] The metal work and the wheel mechanics are also outstanding. The block itself is constructed from one contiguous piece, so whether the leaves are down or up, there is no break in the grain of the wood. Of course I have used the wood top to work on, but, I must admit the island inspires me with such respect, when involved in extremely wet work, or working hard items requiring more force than usual, I have been known to use a small cutting board to protect it. Like everyone else, we work very hard for our money, and it was so very welcome to receive a product where it is obvious the craftsman at Boos work hard at what they do - take pride in what they do - as well. Oh, and by the way, when the kitchen is all picked up for the day (or night) the island looks wonderful with a Biscotti jar and a simple spray of fresh flowers! Trust me, you are gonna love it!"..."
