First, this island was what I'd consider expensive (I'm a tightwad, sorry). So I really debated before springing for this one, but kitchen space is precious and this one had all the features I wanted - drawer, shelf, towel rack (in that order) and all work beautifully. The most surprising thing about this island is the build quality. This thing seems to glow in my kitchen - something indescribable, but it draws you in and everyone that comes into my kitchen seems to feel a need to start touching the top. I can't explain it. It is silky smooth natural wood and the base is so heavy and solid. I use this in the kitchen for food prep. and I'm what you'd call a "heavy user". This beast is holding up without breaking a sweat. I did notice the top got a little rough after a few weeks so I borrowed some paper and gave it a little sanding and added more mineral oil - back in action. For something I use almost everyday and probably will for the rest of my life, this island turned out to be a bargain."..."  Read more

While a picture may be worth a thousand words, shopping the internet can be tricky, what you see is not always what you get. In the case of our John Boos Cucina Americana butcherblock island, what we "saw" was delightfully so much less than what we got - which is not only a functional island, but a beautful piece of kitchen furniture! The craftsmenship of the piece was evident right out of the box, and once we had it put together (which, by the way, is very easy) we were stunned by the attention to detail, the quality of the wood,[...] The metal work and the wheel mechanics are also outstanding. The block itself is constructed from one contiguous piece, so whether the leaves are down or up, there is no break in the grain of the wood. Of course I have used the wood top to work on, but, I must admit the island inspires me with such respect, when involved in extremely wet work, or working hard items requiring more force than usual, I have been known to use a small cutting board to protect it. Like everyone else, we work very hard for our money, and it was so very welcome to receive a product where it is obvious the craftsman at Boos work hard at what they do - take pride in what they do - as well. Oh, and by the way, when the kitchen is all picked up for the day (or night) the island looks wonderful with a Biscotti jar and a simple spray of fresh flowers! Replaces a built-in kitchen island that we tore out when remodeling our kitchen. We chose this table because we were used to eating at the old island and this table has counter height with enough overhang to accommodate two diners. The butcher block top and sturdy construction make it a very nice addition to our newly remodeled kitchen. An excellent, well made kitchen island. The service from Wayfair was also wonderful. I purchased the 48" X 30" butcher block table with one drawer and three wicker baskets—the perfect size for my kitchen with lots of extra room to work on. I've oiled the block a couple of times with generous amounts of olive oil. And, I bought a Dragonflies drawer pull knob (the drawer didn't come with a pull knob) which looks great. A Wohl birds-eye maple cutting board and a Zwilling Cronidur knife complement this beautiful centrepiece to my home. Thanks Boos, thanks Dragonflies, thanks Wohl, thanks Zwilling, and thank you Wayfair—food prep is an absolute pleasure!"..."  Read more
