I bought this as an alternative for a long, spacious plant stand to be placed under a large, low window. With ample storage under it, it was the ideal solution for the space. The original top would definitely not last long as a plant stand because it scratches very easily and isn't water resistant but, after laying an extra top on it (home made out of plywood and marine vinyl, for just a few dollars), it works and looks great. It would have been nice if the underside of the original top were finished (black), since it hangs out but, if you do not get on your knees around this piece, you won't notice. I'm yet to see how it holds up to the weight on it (it IS supposed to be a bench!) but so far so good. This bench is very pretty. It arrived in excellent shape. The directions are wrong in a lot of spots. You really need to read through them completely first. The bench itself is great quality. It comes with a thin folded up back piece for the bench which we just left off. It looks much better without it, and allows the wall color to show through. It is pretty much what I expected as far as quality is concerned for a less-than-$100 item. It arrives with no problems but just a slightly damaged corner at the top of the bench."
