Looks good but a real challenge to hang. I hung this in a fairly large entryway with a 12' ceiling. It is very dramatic, and has very good light. I'd suggest a dimmer as it does have 8 bulbs. It is of a decent quality, although it was tricky matching up some of the holes and two of the shades are a little crooked. (Be careful if you decide to tweak them because they feel a bit fragile.) Here's the hard part: It weighs about 40 lbs. Do not underestimate 40 lbs. Pack a 26" suitcase for a 2 week vacation and imagine hanging that over your head from two 8x32 machine bolts. Next: It actually hangs from the canopy, so it needs to be supported as you make the electrical connections. The chain that is supplied is standard decorative chain (usually rated for 35lbs) I didn't trust it so used a steel shackle and wrapped it with a bit of velvet. Even so the entire weight is taken by the two 8x32 bolts held by the decorative balls that fetch the canopy to the junction box. I would seriously recommend having a professional hang this for you. I've hung 20 or so chandeliers and ceiling fans in my time and I actually sat down and cried half way through this one. |
