  • A well-packed suitcase can make traveling easier and more relaxed. The first step for top-notch packing is selecting the right suitcase. A duffle or shoulder bag may be ideal for a weekend trip, while a hard-side suitcase is ideal as checked baggage. Remember to take the weight of your empty suitcase into consideration as this will directly impact how much you can pack!

    Choosing the Right Size Suitcase:

The length of your stay and method of travel typically determine the your suitcase type and size.

    1. For a weekend trip a smaller duffle bag or cabin-size bag is ideal.
    2. For a week long trip many people use a carry-on size wheeled suitcase.
    3. For a week or longer, or for a trip that you need various types of clothing, opt for a larger checked bag with a supplemental carry-on.

Consult luggage standards for your airline company before you pack. Make sure to also plan for your return trip, and leave room if you normally return with shopping purchases or souvenirs.

    Packing Tips:

    1. Plan your outfits around basics. Basics can be easily worn with each other to create multiple looks with far less clothing. Use accessories to transform your look.
    2. Make room for multifunctional items, such as a reusable bag to take shopping, to the beach, or for transporting gifts home.
    3. Pare down your shoe selection. Boots and heels take up a considerable amount of space.
    4. Roll soft garmets, such as t-shirts, jeans, and undergarments, and place them at the bottom of your suitcase. Soft materials won't wrinkle when rolled tightly.
    5. Fold stiffer garments like skirts, startched shirts, and blazers and place then on top of the rolled clothing. Alternate the direction you lay pieces to save space and keep the thickness of the pile equal on all sides.
