the size and quality of the table is very good, however cherry is NOT oak, which is what I ordered. I did not realize as I hired someone to assemble the table and chairs, but when he finished, I realized it was not oak. I am very dissapointed in that aspect of my order. As I am 74 years old and already paid to have it assembled, I cannot afford to have it dissambled and return it.

This is a quality product that requires only a modest amount of assembly. It looks, and is, sturdy. The wood is genuine and not composite, and very nicely finished.I placed it in a small breakfast nook, the kind of space for which a round table with a diameter of 42 inches is perfectly proportioned. And that leads me to my one caveat: while not tiny, a table this size is unlikely to be suitable for a family.

This table is an ideal fit for small rooms. The oak finish is smooth and gives a feeling of elegance. The pedastal is robust and makes the table sturdy. It is hard to find a 42" round table, which makes this table a winner. It's simply beautiful!

I am an eclectic designer. I want pieces of furniture that work well together because not all of my woods are the same. Actually, if you are looking for an absolutely "oak-like" finish - this isn't it! The ability to manipulate woods for commercial production has lead the wood furniture industry to make available products that are easier now to assemble with more finishes than ever before. Because the finish simulations are not always "exact", the variations can be a little different than what was advertised . . . and that works perfectly for me in this case! I have a leather couch that you pass by while going into the small dining room where you will find the table. The wood accents on the leather couch have almost the exact same finish as the table. I am happier with the actual finish than I would have been if it were more true to the "oak" look! I love the barrel pedestal. It is solid. I had my knee replaced 8.11.2010 and knew I would be having company come to help me. 6 of the last 7 days I have had company join me for dinner (which they brought - Nice!) at my new table. My chairs are black, mission style with great custom cushions. I feel like the table is a custom item, because it fits in so well. I am so pleased with my new table for my own personal uses, as well as welcoming company to sit down with me for conversation or food!

The legs make the table hard to put our feet under the table. This is a big disappointment. The top of the table look like boards glued together.
